Angry lego faces.. Are kids toys getting more aggressive?

Just read this article.

Do you think kids toys are getting more aggressive? Not sure what I think about this... I'm definitely aware of 'aggressive' toys and avoid them, not sure if they are a new thing though?

It's a Lego The Hulk! Of course it's fucking angry! That's his whole thing.

FFS

What a non story.

OwlinaTree · 12/06/2013 18:17

I'm sure i heard that lego was originally only bright colours like yellow, red, and blue because the creator didn't want children to make army style weapons and tanks with it.

May be wrong, will google...

Thisisaeuphemism · 12/06/2013 18:19

I heard this on the radio this morning.

All our Lego figures look pissed off - maybe because someone just took their legs?

OwlinaTree · 12/06/2013 18:26

Humm many people talking about it, not much evidence!! Many people agreeing lego creator was a pacifist.

Lego is rubbish now, too many kits that make you build 1 thing and not as much creativity.

A thoughtful comment piece on the story

That Hulk figure just looks like he's doing a huge shit.

Confused

Everyone poos, is no big deal.

CheesyPoofs · 12/06/2013 19:27

Not sure about the angry faces, but some lego ranges are definitely becoming more agressive. It's all about goodies and baddies and fighting, especially in ranges like Ninjago.

People have kicked up a massive fuss about Lego Friends gender stereotyping girls, but a lot of their range is totally aimed at boys and stereotypes them as well.

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:31

The Hulk is hardly a fluffy kind of superhero...

Btw, lego figures are notoriously vicious, they bully the playmobils.

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:32

My ds just plays with the bricks, dislikes making a set think.

Tweasels · 12/06/2013 19:33

Our lego is aggressive by stealth.

It hides in the rug waiting for me to stand on it. Twat.

BeaWheesht · 12/06/2013 19:33

Our Lego people all look a bit pissed off and when left alone with the playmobil people I come back to find they've scalped them all :( so yep aggressive I'd say

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:34

Yes, same here Bea.

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:35

I fear an alliance between the legos and the sylvanians against poor Playmobil, who are known to be softies.

Tweasels · 12/06/2013 19:40

I would imagine Sylvanian Families knock on doors spreading the good word of the bible.

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:44

You are being naive, now... they are part of a cult...

Francagoestohollywood · 12/06/2013 19:44

Lolling at sylvanian families spreading the good word!! I can see it too!!

ARealDame · 13/06/2013 18:33

Ah! Sylvian Families. Reminds me, my son (who was mad about cars and action men) was obsessed with his little Sylvian Family for a while (sweet). Does that mean he'll grow up to be the caring, macho type Smile.

sanityawol · 13/06/2013 18:37

Fisher Price garage circa 1975 - the mechanic looks really pissed off... None of this jolly smiling Little People nonsense.

fancyabakeoff · 13/06/2013 18:40

The thread title alone has classic written all over it. Grin

Heartbrokenmum73 · 13/06/2013 19:43

I've always (even as a child) found Playmobil people really creepy - it's those dead-eyes. They clearly have no soul/are pod people/are children of the corn.

And yes, OP, since starting to collect Lego figures my children have developed an alarming knowledge of martial arts and an impressive array of highly illegal weaponry...

treaclesoda · 13/06/2013 19:50

LEGO faces might be all angry, when in my day they were nice smiley men with moustaches or elderly ladies with glasses. But on the other hand, when I was wee, we played with toy guns including those ones that shot little pellets using a spring and they hurt like hell, and bows and arrows, and that's not really the done thing these days, so on the contrary I'd say toys are far less aggressive now.

treaclesoda · 13/06/2013 19:52

Anyone else remember when LEGO people were about five times the size they are now, and all out of proportion with LEGO buildings etc?

Now they were aggressive ...

OverAndAbove · 13/06/2013 20:14

Gah. And yet people complain about Lego Friends who are all lovely and pink, and spend their time making cupcakes, grooming their pets and driving round in speedboats. Leave the little people alone!

Ps I love the chicken suit guy in the recent mini figures set - so cool...
