A) becuse its not style and beauty and b) because i never thought id be posting an style and beauty styee post!

My DD is 23 this year and i'm a bit broke, would like to buy her a nail painting kit that she can do effects with - its her new creative obsession and she is actually very good at it and paints little designs etc, quite arty farty, like! Where could i get somethingthat she would like that isn't quite so tacky as claires accessories but isn't too expensive? Probably only have a budge of £20 £30 at absolute push.

Have a look for a Konad nail stamping kit. Ebay and Amazon are your best bet.

plainjaney · 10/06/2013 19:06

There are stamping kits in poundland at the moment which aren't at all bad.
A while back a few of us defected from the MSE forum, we had a huge thread called 'Nail Polish Addicts Anonymous' which became so big we turned it into our own forum.... NPA

I'm sure you can find ideas on there. Don't be tempted by these Argos style kits because they are frustrating, you'd be better with some decent polishes and a nice set of brushes.

Incidentally, if you want to try the Konad style stamps there is a Chinese store called Born Pretty which does Konad plate copies for a couple of pounds delivered. I've used them a few times and they are great. Problem is once you go to their site you end up spending far more that you ever intended and getting that look from your DH when it all turns up a week later....

Born Pretty Store

Thanks :) I was thinking quality over quantity too, although DD does well with claires accesory jewels and bits and pieces, she is very much into retro style

I agree with Born Pretty Store, there are loads of 'effect' polishes on sale at the moment as well.

17 do a nice concrete effect, lots of glitters etc that are similar to high end brands like Nails Inc and OPI.

EllaFitzgerald · 10/06/2013 19:25

My local outlet centre has a small Hamleys shop there and they had quite a nice set for £25. Also, I'm not sure if they're still doing it, but over Christmas, Debenhams were doing quite a thick book of nail designs for around £7.

plainjaney · 10/06/2013 19:26

I cant comment, I buy quantity....I have about 300 bottles of polish at present and I confess I am addicted to the stuff.

One of the best 'bargain' brands I've found are Sinful Colors. It's an American Brand I've been buying for a few years from the USA but Boots have recently started selling it and its an utter steal at £1.99 a bottle.

If you are looking for the nail wheel style bits and jewels again you'll find those in Poundland but also in Born Pretty.

If you do buy stamping plates bear in mind that not all polishes make good stamping polishes. Barry M Foils are excellent for stamping and the silver and gold foils look great over a dark polish.

Also, you could get her a set of acrylic paints? If you have a look at my nail blog Here almost all the designs I do are created with a mix of acrylic and polish. Those fancy little nail art pens are a bit of a gimmick and you can achieve much better results with a decent set of brushes and acrylic paint ;)

oops - referred to my old thread to see which ones DD bought and ended up posting on that instead.

Anyway, what I was trying to do was post on here that DD loved the Nails Supreme set of 10. (ebay, Amazon etc)

StickyProblem · 10/06/2013 19:51

Argos have good ones, nail foils (bit tricky), nail art etc.

plainjaney · 10/06/2013 19:54

Just seen someone link to these on the NPA forum...
