... would make a fucking good defence for me battering my crunching H about the head with my wine bottle for crunching his fucking crisps so fucking irritatingly.

I would happily batter a noisy eater even if I wasn't suffering from anything! My sister somehow managed to slurp a jacket potato with beans today. I don't even know how she managed it, but it took all my restraint not to just take the bloody plate away from her.

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/06/2013 00:14

Yanbu.

I detest noisy eaters who have no reason other than poor manners for being so.

  • my brother has a congenital condition that entails his trachea and mouth being extremely small, needs an operation to fix it. He eats noisily and is also a mouth breather. But he can't help it. I know others must also have reasons for not being able help it.

If this thread had been written by a man....

AtYourCervix · 09/06/2013 08:56

Even if written by a man you would be justified.

There is no room for gender issues in noisy eating. No excuse whatsoever.

ShadeofViolet · 09/06/2013 09:17

I once watched a sciency type programme where they managed to pick up the sound that a snail makes when eating, all crunchy and slurpy.

My DH makes the same noises. I cant sit near him when he is eating.

Don't be so blasé about domestic violence.

theodorakisses · 10/06/2013 12:21

I have seen people half murdered on here for innocently saying cretin, idiot etc, I can't believe they think that joking about dv is funny. I used to work with a guy who was almost killed by his wife who had severe pnd for noisy eating.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 10/06/2013 17:35

Fair point re dv. I apologise: short sighted of me, particularly seeing I have taken my dad to task a number of times about joking about the same thing.

It is not just the crunching, it is HOW he crunches. Like the PP whose sister slurps baked potatoes. My DH even crunches overipe bananas. Even eating pasta sounds like a bowl of cornflakes.

I agree.

Fair play to the OP for re-thinking her first post, but I do find it depressing the amount of casual DV references like this.

The 'WIBU to knee my DP in the balls?' over something triffling are pretty horrible and really get my goat.

Even if you went ona website like Pistonheads full of unreconstructed macho idiots and posted: 'The tea isn't ready, WIBU to give the wife a boot in the cunt?' You'd be shouted down pretty quickly and the post would be removed in short order.

Yet MN which has a largely well earned reputation for being inclusive and non-discriminatory, seems to have a bit of a blind spot about this kind of language. I'd like to see MNHQ taking a stronger line on these kind of threads.

passmetheprozac · 10/06/2013 17:53

I know exactly how you feel op and I know that you can't help how you feel.

The fight or flight response you feel when you hear the sounds.

I have learnt to hurt myself rather than others, have you seen this

passmetheprozac · 10/06/2013 17:57
  • I have not hurt anyone because of this. A badly worded sentence.
Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 10/06/2013 18:15

Yes, passmetheprozac, thank you - I had seen that. In fact it was on MN that I learn about misophonia and realised that I was not the only one that felt this way!

passmetheprozac · 10/06/2013 18:23

Me too, it's an absolute nightmare! And yes the triggers seem worse when I have pmt. Sad
