He's the first person to reach 40m Twitter followers. I don't follow himself, but doubtless he has lots of sage words of wisdom for us all.

Now - don't get me wrong. In my youth, I was convinced that Mark Owen was God's gift to womankind and destined to be my husband. I get teenage crushes and celebrity idols.

But Justin? He's not attractive, or talented, or pleasant. He's rude. And arrogant.

I just don't get it.

I have two DDs (12 and 15) and neither JB or one direction are ever mentioned.

DD2 quite likes JLS, Taylor Swift, Jessie J and various others, but not those two I am delighted to say.

He's not that bad looking in a bland teen pop idol kind of way. The pre-teens/early teens go or that sort of non threatening pretty boy thing. Mark Owen was take that's pretty boy next door, in the old days.

His music is shit tho. Selena could do better.

Ahh but to older women Mark Owen might have been viewed as an ugly twat back then too. Same when girls swooned after Elvis or the Beatles, older women thought they were terrible influences etc.

I don't like Justin, his music is a crime BUT I can see why young girls swoon after him. He's not ugly, as much as that hurts me to say and he does tunes teens/tweens love. I do get it. Same with 1D.

Don't worry, he'll be involved in some unforgivable drugs/drink/sex scandal at some point and they'll move onto the next chipmunk faced scrote.

I took my dd to see him in concert recently. He kept us waiting for two hours. She's no longer a fan.

Are there many British fans of Justin Bieber. I thought they'd all like One Direction. Except my DD, who has no interest in either. I would be completely prepared to take her to a One Direction concert.

See, I am not sure about this "your mum didn't get your teen crush either" argument. I doubt my mother did see Mark Owen's rather bland charm, but she didn't dislike him. I don't really get why teens might like 1D or those Twilight people or whatever, but I am not offended by them. Teens like what teens like.

But that's just it - most objects of teen infatuation are on the bland / inoffensively pleasant side. Justin is actively horrible. The keeping fans waiting, the stupid Anne Frank comment, dueting with Chris Brown...
