Lemonade pop to a newborn!!!!?

The craziest thing I've heard!? Someone advising me to give lemonade, which she said will prob make her sick, to get rid of colic.
And they were being serious!
Omg!! I'm so shocked!

If anything I'd give cooled booked water if really needed or with the tiniest drop of orange juice to get rid of constipation. But omg would never give a newborn fizzy pop!!!!!!

I have never heard of that and would not give a newborn pop. Infacol works wonders!

Reenypip · 05/06/2013 09:31

I would never give it either, absurd!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard flat fizzy drinks are good for getting rid of stomach pains, maybe that is what she meant.

I mean, a drop is a drop is a drop....and is it worse than a drop of orange juice at that age...probably not.

You will hear all sorts of mad things/suggestions - some work, some are just bonkers.

Who was it?

nenevomito · 05/06/2013 09:32

Nothing works for colic . Infacol just gives them slightly weird orangy burps.

Wouldn't try lemonade, but if someone had suggested it to me when I was sleep deprived and cried at to the point of insanity, I'd have probably tried fizzy water out of sheer desperation.

Never heard of that one before, how bizarre.

LEMisdisappointed · 05/06/2013 09:34

Nowt as strange as folk - everyone knows you dont give a newborn baby lemonade, unless you put a wee bit of brandy in it first!

Reenypip · 05/06/2013 09:35

It wasn't just a drop of lemonade they suggested! Some random person on a forum.
I've never heard of giving pop to a newborn and I wouldn't give it.

Knowing that your baby will outgrow it soon is the only really reliable method of dealing with colic.

Januarymadness · 05/06/2013 09:39

If you havent tried it COLIEF was the miracle nectar of the Gods when dd had colic.

Cranial massage from an osteopath worked wonders on my ds. Also, try switching to Cow & Gate Comfort milk as it's gentler on the tummy than normal formula.

valiumredhead · 05/06/2013 09:45

My dad tried to give my prem ds Fanta as it was a hot day. He also gave him a suck of chocolate cake from his finger! I was horrified but he lived Wink

Maybe a little lick of something is ok, but a baby bottle full of lemonade, for me personally, no.

I wouldn't try it unless desperate but it does kinda make sense, colic is commonly caused by trapped wind, lemonade is fizzy and would cause big burps, I can see the logic but still wouldn't do it
