To steal your great ideas for Fathers' Day?

Thepursuitofhappiness · 05/06/2013 07:46

My baby is 3 months now and I'd like to get my husband something lovely (on behalf of my DS) for Fathers' Day, he's been amazing these past few months.

Can I steal anyone's ideas, struggling to come up with anything exciting (and not too expensive!)?

I'm going to a pottery painting cafe to have my babies foot and handprints painted onto a plate. Could also do a mug or something?

Rosduk · 05/06/2013 07:51

You could do one of the paint pottery mugs if there is one near you. That's what we did at that age with DDs footprints on it!

PoppyWearer · 05/06/2013 07:52

"Daddy's mug" with a footprint is good one for a new dad.

My DH and my DDad got "Dad" and "Grandad" socks for the first Fathers Day after my DC1 was born and both loved them. I know it's socks, but...

foolserrand · 05/06/2013 07:53

We don't buy anything for mother's or Father's Day. Instead, we help the kids make things. When ds was only a few months, I got some fabric paints and a plain white t shirt and helped ds (and dsc's) cover it with handprints. It was lots of fun.

There's a company that turns an audio clip of speech into a sound wave print that you can frame. About £25 from Not on the High Street.

DD is 8 months so DH's gift will show "Da da da da da da da"

gemdrop84 · 05/06/2013 07:56

I'm struggling as well, it's dps birthday early next week so always struggle to think of something! But this year we've found a couple of things, on the notonthehighstreet site they have a lovely t shirt for dad that says full pint and a baby vest that says half pint. They are also on ebay much cheaper. I'm also taking dd to a pottery painting place and we are making a menu so he will have all his meals cooked for him on the day plus breakfast in bed!

Mawgatron · 05/06/2013 08:19

My dh I supposed to be getting a brand new son. If he arrives on time (might be a bit late to source one now though, unless you nick someone else's...)

Mawgatron · 05/06/2013 08:19

Is

I am joining in! I am on a very tight budget this week (read that as no money at all!) and need to do something nice...make something spesh. What can we doooooo??

I wish I could do the mug thing. If there's one thing DH likes it's a new mug!

Primrose123 · 05/06/2013 08:58

We have made picture mugs in the past. Try something like snapfish or photobox, and choose a nice photo of them together for the mug.

stickortwist · 05/06/2013 09:02

Ive bought a box frame with 3 spaces and then got them all to do a drawing to go in it. Aged 2,4 &7 it was quite a nice pressie and cheap. You could do your own baby hand or foot prints at home.

velvetysquirrel · 05/06/2013 09:02

We've gone for a personalised mug, got one from Funky Pigeon. They have 50% off some Father's days gifts, I think the code was HERO50.

Peanutbutterfingers · 05/06/2013 09:11

If you're on a tight budget search children footprint on Pinterest and there are lots of beautiful pictures and craft ideas you can make at home with kids. Footprint butterflies on plant pots or cheeky monkey footprint pic are ace :)

wibblyjelly · 05/06/2013 09:35

I've got dh a beaded bracelet with ds's name and date of birth on it. Only cost a fiver, including p&p. If you'd like the details, let me know! It was from a woman running a small business in Devon, so it was nice to support a non chain company as well.

memphis83 · 05/06/2013 09:42

Asda print photos onto mugs for either £6 or £8.
My dp has hinted for a harmonica so I will get him one and get it engraved.

Thepursuitofhappiness · 05/06/2013 09:55

Thanks all... I like the footprint idea, ill see if I can sort it in time.

A few years ago I designed and printed off a gift voucher ... for a car wash ... by DD and me ... and we did it ... car was in a real state ... we even hung an air freshener thingy from the rear view mirror ... DH loved it!

We also got him some chocolate he likes.

claremp7 · 05/06/2013 11:26

Sew me up buttoncup on Facebook. Did a lovely pictureof phrases for my four months old daddy.

MTBMummy · 05/06/2013 11:42

for DP's first fathers day we did the mug thing, for his second I did an album of all the pictures of him and DD, his third I had a drawing DD did transfers to a t-shirt and this yeah I've had a lovely picture of the 2 of them walking hand in hand in the woods - full of bluebells made into a canvas print.

Oh and always the largest bar of cadburys's dairy milk - as DP Loves it

DoJo · 05/06/2013 12:20

My son REALLY resembles his dad, so last year I found a photo of my husband from when he was a baby, persuaded my son (with great difficulty) to pose in a similar position and had a mug made with one photo on each side. He loves it, and it cost less than £10 from what I recall.

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/06/2013 12:48

Look at Not On The High Street for ideas. Click on fathers day, then on from the little ones. There is a framed handprint painting of a tree, which you would easily be able to replicate at home, even with your baby being so small.

JimmyCorkhill · 05/06/2013 17:27

Boots photo online are doing a mug for £1. I've already ordered mine, I chose the biggest collage mug (£12.99) and the offer worked so it's not just on the cheapest mug. P&P not included but was only £1.99 so £2.99 for the whole thing!

You can also get a FREE photo card which is just 99p postage but you have to order this separately from the mug as they only accept one offer code per order.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 05/06/2013 17:32

Ooh thanks Jimmy! I wonder if you can collect your mug? Or does it have to be posted? I don't trust our mail...we can go DAYS without a delivery! I can';t find a thing on the site which tells about collection versus delivery.

JimmyCorkhill · 06/06/2013 15:12

Sorry, I have no idea! Maybe they have a deliver to store option? Or you could ask in the shop at the photo counter and give them the codes? HTH Smile

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/06/2013 16:09

For my first Father's Day I got: a hand and footprint card (it also had a kiss because a four month WILL get it all over her), a bottle of Guinness Foreign Extra and all the childcare bar the feeds. That was the best bit, having her sleeping on me while the Guinness took effect.

This Father's Day we are going to the British Museum, while DW works. It's her present to me, to suffer a middle-aged git giving lectures on dead people.
