To think who does debenhams think it is

Last minute holiday shopping today. After a massive trip to primark went to debenhams for new bikini and underwear.

At the till paying (£88) my massive primark bag fell to pieces. I asked if I could buy another carrier bag and was told in the most snooty way that I couldn't. That was a primark bag and it wasn't being replaced with a debenhams one. She then proceeded to stuff my new stuff in the tiniest bag going,

AIBU to think they could have given me a bigger bag as I was shopping there and had spent a lot of money.

Also who goes debenhams bloody think they are. It's hardly harrodsConfused

Seriously? I would have said 'Then give me my money back. I'm going elsewhere. Say bye to the £88.'

RedHelenB · 03/06/2013 17:37

Up to them I suppose - you get their bags to put their shopping in &I don't think they sell them.

CherylTrole · 03/06/2013 17:38

They wouldnt let you buy a carrier bag?

Fairyloo · 03/06/2013 17:39

Mean though. What did they expect me to do

In Wales you got to buy bags, you have no choice ( unless you take one with you)

I don't see what the problem was, after all a branded bag is advertising.

Tee2072 · 03/06/2013 17:45

Same in NI, McNew.

Gunznroses · 03/06/2013 17:47

You should have said -"Do you know who I am ?" Angry

i can't believe that's a debenhams policy, tis the sales assistant been a snotty arse! wonder if it would have been okay if the snapped bag were from Harrods ?

picnicbasketcase · 03/06/2013 17:47

Surely that can't be the company policy? It sounds more like one moody, childish and bored staff member to me, particularly the bit about then giving you a tiny bag for your purchases so you couldn't put your other shopping in with it. Do they have a Twitter account? Ask them on there. Draw attention to it.

Fillyjonk75 · 03/06/2013 17:51

I spent £80 in Sweaty Betty and the assistant gave me a 'bag for life' type bag. Has been really useful as it's a great size!

shufflehopstep · 03/06/2013 18:02

It'll just be that cashier being grumpy and not Debenhams policy. Why would they object to the advertising? That's what the branded bags are for at the end of the day otherwise every shop would just supply standard blank bags.

ENormaSnob · 03/06/2013 18:06

That was really mean of them.

Where you off to on holiday?

Fakebook · 03/06/2013 18:11

How thick of them. That's free advertising.

Fakebook · 03/06/2013 18:12

Well it's always free advertising for them, but more advertising I suppose.

Goodadvice1980 · 03/06/2013 18:13

I would name and shame on the dreaded facebook!

LineRunner · 03/06/2013 18:14

How did your Primark bag fall to pieces?

LineRunner · 03/06/2013 18:15

p.s. I hate Debenhams because of the queues at the tills.

nancy75 · 03/06/2013 18:15

Shops don't give out bags because people nick stuff then come back later and say I can't find the receipt but I've still got the bag...

Jux · 03/06/2013 18:16

How silly of them. Free advertising of their shop as you carry their bag around vs free advertising of another shop as your carry that bag around. Hmmm, let me think.....

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/06/2013 18:19

See I never used to just give out bags to randoms who came in and asked for one for reasons that nancy75 hs just mentioned but bloody hell how mean spirited was that sales assistant?!

Fairyloo · 03/06/2013 18:20

Line star it was full and ripped!!!

The exact same thing happened to me once - my primark bag broke in debenhams. I wasn't even buying anything, but a nice shop assistant came over and gave me a debenhams bag. So, not policy, just an arse.

TheChaoGoesMu · 03/06/2013 18:32

Snotty cow.
