I went out for a drink on Saturday with some friends for the first time in ages. There were cocktails. My boot's sole was a bit dodgy (honest) and on the walk home I tripped and fell....and I've completely buggered my ankle! I managed to hobble home on it but it still really bloody hurts. Got the doctors this afternoon but I feel like such a tit, I really do.

And don't even get me started on how out of place I felt amongst all the shiny swishy people at this wine bar...and I got grumpy because everyone else got asked for ID except me Angry

Note to self...not drinking in wine bars EVER AGAIN!

I think you are over-reacting (about everything) basically.

FishfingersAreOK · 03/06/2013 13:25

No, YANBU.

Can I send you a cup of Brew and some sympathy. And maybe a small Grin.

So many of us have been there....and you do not have to tell the Dr how you tripped and fell do you.....

Hope it/you feel better soon.

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 03/06/2013 13:27

So you were drinking cocktails then fell? Shit happens Grin I went over on mine Saturday night.

The not been asked for ID is something I dream of so YABU on that stance.

The been out of place in wine bar? Id feel the same so I just don't go to them. I prefer the bars where you stock to the floor Grin

Never drinking again? YABU.

I'm aware of that ItsYonliMe Grin

Just feeling incredibly sorry for myself today...

Bet it's broken if it still hurts that much. Sympathies :)

ScarletLady02 · 03/06/2013 13:32

I think it's just sprained...I can walk on it, but it's not easy. I can push down and wiggle my toes etc. I have a tubigrip on it. I've sprained it far worse before...it was black and I was on crutches for weeks. Funnily enough drink was involved then as well! Another note to self...don't play frisbee whilst half-cut in a field with rabbit holes! I think that original sprain weakened it or something.

You should see the bruise on my thigh for falling off a beer soaked bar on Saturday night. Your night was tameeeeeee.

NameThatTuna · 03/06/2013 13:38

I did that a few months ago OP.

I too blamed the shoe not because I was toasted walknig on cobble stones in 4in heels

I didn't promise to never drink again, I made a vow never to wear heels again Grin

Fenton · 03/06/2013 13:42

I injured myself getting out of my car on Sunday. I've got a van/caravelle type thing and tried to step down out of it carrying two bags of shopping.

So my ankle gave in and I collapsed in a crumpled pile, groceries included, on my drive. I live at the end of a close and it was a sunny day - you get the picture - multiple neighbours saw my shame.

ScarletLady02 · 03/06/2013 13:42

I don't usually wear heels! I was going to wear my knee high converse (cool AND practical) but I need to fix the zip so it was a last minute change of shoe-age.

I'm not "never drinking again"...just never drinking in wine bars again Grin

I should have known how the evening was going to go when they said we were going to the Slug and Lettuce...

Worst name for pub chain EVER. It sounds like a hideous euphemism.

Fenton - the only person who saw me was the bouncers of a strip club. One came rushing over to see if I was OK, I just growled at him as I felt stupid.

Hope you're ok Smile

Oh god, you've reminded me... In my early twenties I went to a wedding where I knew the bride, who was a friend from uni, and no one else. Travelled three hrs on coach to get there. At the start of the reception, when I was completely sober, I slipped and twisted my ankle in the toilets - no one saw. I felt so out of place and awkward - just split up with someone and a wedding was the last place I wanted to be, single and not knowing a soul. Drank plenty. Plenty plenty as I rarely drank anyway, and ended up going to a nightclub with a group who diverted the taxi there when we were on the way back to the hotel. Danced madly, figuring that I was in some horrific nightmare of noise and queasiness that would never ever end so I should just surrender to it. Eventually got back to hotel - stepped out of the taxi and my ankle buckled and everyone snootily looked at me from inside the cab like I was rolling round drunk. By that point I was sobering up pdq. Limped back to hotel. Actually I was in the cheap b&b next door. Crawled up the narrow stairs and collapsed in bed.

Woke up next morning with a black foot the size of a football. B&b people called an ambulance after I crawled out of my room and down a corridor; i was in all ways an embarrassment to them. There was no way I could walk or hobble and it was excruciating. I was deathly hungover and the room was spinning too which definitely did not help. I had to get my parents to collect me at Victoria coach station that evening as I returned on crutches, utterly miserable in my crumpled wedding clothes - my jeans wouldn't go over my huge foot. I couldn't manage my wheels suitcase and crutches with any dignity, no one helped me at the coach station in Poole and I ended up without any food or water for the journey home. The thirst, I still remember...

Yanbu. Much empathy here. The self recrimination is he worst part... Flowers

MatersMate · 03/06/2013 14:06

conina that sounds horrific :(

ScarletLady02 · 03/06/2013 14:07

Oh bless you Conina. When I sprained my ankle before it was gruesome, massive and black. I couldn't walk anywhere on it, I had to be carried home, it was HORRIBLE!
