is trying to do an Elisabeth Wurtzel (Prozac Nation)? Surely the best way of confronting her issues seriously would be to stop doing cheesy pantos and posing nude everywhere?

You have linked to a blog about prozac??

marjproops · 30/05/2013 20:18

is that saRah jaNE FROM CBieebees? Nude? wtf?

im NOT opening the link

redandblacks · 31/05/2013 09:41

yes - she is complaining about people expecting her to smile all the time but why on earth carry on in showbiz?

OP posts:
NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 31/05/2013 10:08

Not on the link you gave she's not! It's about Prozac

TeddyMercury · 31/05/2013 10:50

She's clearly very very poorly. I wouldn't care to judge whatever coping mechanisms she chooses to get through the days.

Patchouli · 31/05/2013 10:52

I know she's got a new tattoo and everything, but 'punk' isn't a word I would've used to describe Sarah-Jane Honeywell.

Tinkerisdead · 31/05/2013 11:05

Oh blimey i've just skim read through it all. She is clearly one very mixed up woman. Hopefully she's having counselling or something as she writes like a tortured soul!

redandblacks · 31/05/2013 11:40

I agree that I have not walked in her shoes so I could not possibly judge but I just remember watching her in the very early days and I felt very much in awe of her as among the other presenters, she stood out as sunny and pretty and slim and constantly full of energy - I saw her as a poster girl for a successful family life. I never realised that she had been so troubled for so long in so many different ways.

There were a few threads on here where people seemed to feel a strong aversion to her and let it be known in no uncertain terms and I was always keen to leap to her defence.

It does deonstrate the extent to which appearences are deceptive esecially when we are dealing with cbeebies presenters (remembering Mark Speight etc.)

NeoMaxi - yes, it is her blog

What a bitchy OP. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.

And we wonder why people are afraid to admit they struggle with their mental health.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 31/05/2013 13:17

How brave of her. to come out and say, "i have depression and I struggle with it" takes a lot of courage. I'm nowhere near her biggest fan in terms of what she's done on telly and elsewhere but I have a lot of respect for anyone who can opens up about their mental illness like that.

Mark Speight was brilliant. One of favourite presenters when I was growing up. So sad he ended up way he did and took his own life.

Pagwatch · 31/05/2013 13:23

I don't understand your post tbh OP

You start off criticing her for posing nude and complain that she isn't raising awareness then complain about what she says.

What is your point?

morethanpotatoprints · 31/05/2013 13:29

She sounds like a tortured soul to me.
Just because somebody is talented doesn't mean they are natural in the spotlight, nor that they thrive on this.
the alternative is not to use that talent and be somebody you aren't. Sarah jane is a clown foremost and a person living with mental illness.
I certainly wouldn't knock the poor love.
Shame on anyone who does.

SarahAndFuck · 31/05/2013 13:42

"Surely the best way of confronting her issues seriously would be to stop doing cheesy pantos and posing nude everywhere?"

I have no experience of her issues but perhaps when you have those issues it's hard to see for yourself the best way to confront them.

redandblacks · 31/05/2013 15:03

Well, perhaps I am not really sure what I feel about it other than the fact that I am one of the people who agree with her own point about no longer wanting her to paste on a synthetic smile all the time now that I know what she is going through (or some of it). Panto is pretty highly-strung, surreal stuff and I cannot imagine how anyone mentally fragile would improve through doing it as part of an intensive schedule

OP posts:
redandblacks · 31/05/2013 15:04

And if you are (only just) managing to bolt the door leading to bulimia then surely posing nude would compound your insecurity

OP posts:
redandblacks · 31/05/2013 15:08

"Sarah jane is a clown foremost and a person living with mental illness."

surely the reverse i true esp since she seems to want to concentrate on building up a public image far removed from family/child entertainment as is possible?

OP posts:
Lovecat · 31/05/2013 15:20

Panto is hard work, but it's not highly-strung (maybe I'm doing it wrong), any more than 'normal' performance is. It requires discipline, comic timing and singing/dancing skill and is a lot harder than people who haven't done it think it is, but it is also routine once you've learnt your lines/moves and that can be comforting. It's also supportive, as you're relying on your theatre company and them on you to carry the show forward. And being someone other than yourself (ie a theatre role), when you're not that keen on yourself, can also be a good distraction.

I've always liked Sarah-Jane on CBeebies and I wish her well.

morethanpotatoprints · 31/05/2013 16:42

red
A clown is a clown forever, whether they are entertaining children or not.
Afaik, it is a state of mind, a being. Not necessarily a profession where you paint a red nose on.
Many entertainers and musicians have similar battles throughout their lives, it sometimes seems as though its part of the territory.

ReluctantBeing · 31/05/2013 16:45

She still makes my skin crawl.

JakeBullet · 31/05/2013 16:47

What a very sad article, she isn't at all the person I thought she was. Her description of being in a violent relationship is awful, poor woman. I am another one wishing her well.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 31/05/2013 18:50

She was in the paper the other day as part of the cast of a new fitness vid for Mothers....working out with babies in slings it was.

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 31/05/2013 18:58

That just made me feel sad for her. I really hope shes gettin ghte help she obviously needs.

I also think te op was harsh. there is no need to kick someone when shes down Sad

neffi · 31/05/2013 19:16

It's heartbreaking and I hope she gets through this. She's very brave to put it all out there and I admire her for it.
