to wish I could slow time down just a little bit?

I have one DS, who is 5. The last few years seem to have just shot by while I wasn't paying attention. I was looking at some photo's today of him as a baby and toddler, and feeling all nostalgic. Then I got to thinking. He is 5 now, which I think is a great age. He sleeps at night, can feed and dress himself, mostly without my help, but is still young enough to think I am wonderful and all knowing if you ignore the odd strop when he doesn't get his own way.

AIBU to want to keep him at this age, for just a bit longer, before he decides I am an embarrassment who knows nothing? At the rate time seems to be going I will have a teenager before I know it, which scares me a bit!

Why does if? Teenagers are just as lovely you know!

I wish that too. I have a 12 year old and it has passed in the blink of an eye. I tell myself to live in the moment with DS, as I know that it will pass so fast.

Teenagers are brilliant ... and 10 year olds are too. Small enough for cuddles and big enough for proper conversations.

It's good you've enjoyed him so far at every age .... just carry on doing so

They are lovely at all ages, DS1 is just 11 and about to finish primary school, all happy as exams are over and I looked at him yesturday, all floppy blonde hair, mouthfull of biscuits, swinging his leg on one of the breakfast stools, smiley face and he just looked at me and said 'what?' and I said "nothing" and he said 'you are doing it again, getting teary eyed!" and I said "Mums are allowed you know!" and he just laughed, rolled his eyes and went off into the garden to play footy with his younger brother, if I could hold that moment in my mind forever I will be happy. They are just as heart squishly lovely at various ages, but with bigger feet! DS aged 11 has size 6.5 feet!

Oh Grants...you gave me a lump in my throat! My DS1 is 5 and so lovely I want to keep him 5! But I know it'll still be the same when he's older

My ds is also 5, and has been a total pickle today, but he's such a good, loving little boy on the whole and he's growing up so fast! Was just sat here thinking how sad I felt that he'd been in a funny mood today as I'd planned for us to go for a nice dinner but we didn't in the end, and I know that at some point the day will come when he's not interested in spending time with me!

I wish we could stop time too!!! :)

I know what you mean our DD is fourteen months and lovely at the moment. The tantrums haven't started yet, she sees everything as an adventure, has suddenly become affectionate and gives us random cuddles and kisses, loves her baby dolly loves playing and sleeps all night.

I am glad to hear the stages we still have to come are just as nice! Nice to know I'm not being too unreasonable as well
