... For messing around with special k recipe!! Flippin 3 multi grain recipe!! [shocked]
It's as if they've poured sugar all over it!!
I just thought they had introduced another version... But noooooo! It looks like they're changing it for good,!
Got the very last box of 'original' today in sainsburys,
Kids are not amused!! Will be swopping to sainsburys version now!! (though this is probably a good thing in the end as special k costs a fortune! (only ever bought it when on offer, Grin

If you switch back to Kellogg's from supermarket brands, you'll be amazed at just how sweet their cereals are.

I thought I had bought the wrong type! It is too sweet. I don't like it at all. Why? Why would they do this?

My DH is very upset about this too. He's gone back to porridge.

They've got form for this re special k though. Does anyone remember the real original stuff, which was a bit like half crispies?

A long time ago I compared Frosties with Special K and found Frosties to have fewer calories and less sugar... may well be different now - goes off to check!....

Perfect opportunity to do away with those useless empty carbs then :)

OrWellyAnn · 16/05/2013 22:01

Special K is choc full of sugar anyway!

Report

SuedeEffectPochette · 16/05/2013 22:03

Yup - Frosties have fewer calories. Know which I'd prefer to eat (but you can't beat porridge can you?)

Gin - yes I do (does that mean I'm giving away my age :-) ). I miss them :-(

Frosties have fewer calories that Special K??? Really? I really should be reading labels

Splatt34 · 16/05/2013 22:47

i used to have special k red berries, then down branded to sainsburys own due to price, which i much prefer. When DHAKA bought kelloggs because they were on offer as a treat I couldn't eat them because they were so sweet

SuedeEffectPochette · 17/05/2013 13:45

Yes, Frosties have 4 calories per hundred grams less than special K, assuming I have checked correctly. So go ahead and eat Frosties! I bet Coco pops are the same too! Smile

Report

SuedeEffectPochette · 17/05/2013 13:48

Oh no, I see that Coco Pops do actually have 8 calories per 100g more than Special K. Well worth eating the cardboard Special K then!

I hate Kellogg's. Not a concern in the UK, but meantime, here in the US:

I haven't bought Special K for years but when I went on a camping holiday in America we purchased it then (thinking it was a healthy cereal) & was surprised it was covered in sugar! Just thought it was an American thing though!!

Kellogs taste like sugared dog food.

Report

Thurlow · 17/05/2013 13:58

No!! How dare they!

The Sainsbury's own brand Special K, I think it's called Balance or something, tastes pretty similar.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 17/05/2013 13:59

I remember the old-style Special K too.

Breakfast cereal is such a minefield and so much of it, even the supposedly healthy stuff, is absolute crap. Here is a challenge for everyone - try to go in to a supermarket and buy a box of cold cereal with no added sugar. Go on, I dare you Grin

ickle I think the American trend for over-processed, over-sweetened, very fatty food is spreading over here and the large food companies are actually encouraging it. They know people get hooked on the high-fructose corn syrup, fat and salt in processed foods and they make huge profits.

I loved the old style special K too. And i was a kid lol. Bring it back i say. yukky healthy style flakes :(

StuntGirl · 17/05/2013 16:54

I like cereals but I may as well just eat air, they are the least filling food stuff on the planet. Even a bowl of porridge or poached eggs on toast doesn't fill me up til lunch time :(

I loved the old half crispie style Special K too. It was like that in the 80s and it was better.

In more recent years my favourite Special K has been the Peach and Apricot but i dont like this new multi grain flake recipe. It tastes like its very cheap.
