Maybe I'm being over sensitive here. I was out walking the dog with my 2 dc earlier when we bumped into my dd2's key worker from nursery walking the other way. I smiled and said hello, and she said hello back. But when my dd2 went past on her scooter her key worker just completely ignored her.

This kind of upset me as I would hope that the woman who has primary care of my dd2 while she's in nursery would have at least been able to muster a cheery 'hi dd2! See you in the morning!' Or something. I appreciate when she's not at work she doesn't want to hang out with the kids from nursery, but there was no danger of dd2 wanting a full blown conversation as a) she's 2 and full blown conversations aren't her thing, and b) she was whizzing along on her scooter.

Maybe she'd assumed when she had says hello to you it was meant for your DD as well?

Unless there's other reasons to have concern regarding the keyworker I would not dwell on this. They said hello.

She probably couldn't catch your DD's eye, it would be weird if you'd stopped for a chat and she'd ignored her but what you've described sounds like you just said hello in passing.

YABU and definitely over sensitive - maybe she was thinking of something completely different and your DD wasn't her priority?

Nah I wouldn't worry, she may have been pre occupied or has a rule not to speak to people that don't meet her eye level out of work hours

YANBU. It sounds like the nursery worker is a bit of a jobs worth. There are many of them.

Maybe she was needing to get somewhere and thought if she said hello to your daughter that she would get involved in chatter that would delay her?

Maybe, as your child was behind you she didn't realise if was your daughter?

Maybe she was looking at her eye level rather than down and didn't see her as she wasn't obviously with you?

Perhaps she didn't recognise you?

I sometimes have problems placing people outside of the normal places I see them, maybe the nursery worker hasn't realised you were a parent of a child from the nursery?

I work with children and have done this many times. Maybe she was in a hurry or just had her mind elsewhere. Why would this make her a 'jobs worth'?

To get wound up about it is weird if you ask me.

Perhaps the key worker is wary of engaging in conversation with parents outside of the establishment? I'm not saying is applies to you, but some parents don't understand that asking questions about progress or incidents is not appropriate away from the establishment because words can be twisted. It may have been that she was afraid your DD would want a conversation that would have inevitably led to further dialogue with you? It doesn't necessarily make it 'right' of her but perhaps she was just anxious. I wouldn't worry too much, I think if your DD is happy during the day with her then she is giving her the support and interaction she needs. So, you are BU but only a little bit, and so is she.

I really don't see any issue here. I don't think it was weird. You said hello, she said hello back.
