AIBU to be considering getting a sofa from SCS?

Or some similar low monthly re payments but loooong time to pay back sofa credit place?

Really want a new one. Never had a new one, only second hand. Nothing wrong with that but my one has now just fallen apart. All the cushions have sunk in and you end up sat in a horrid wooden bar. Leather has split and it just looks rank no matter how much I clean it.

Would take forever to save up. Anyone else experience of SCS or is it a bad idea?

we have literally this week just replaced our old faithful ikea Klippan sofas. they were about £125 quid (and still are) 8 years back and have definitely stood the test of time. yiu can get new covers for them at £40 easy if it gets damaged or you have a change of colour scheme or simoky just need to wash.

affordable and practical Grin

No don't do it, they are so crapola!

I bought one from them a few years ago, the covers completely travelled and twisted round the first time we sat on it, it looked awful.

They came out to it, agreed and 're dressed' it. Within a day it had done it again. I went into the store and asked for a refund, manager said 'I can't do that lovey' WTF!

I called consumer direct, they told her she had to and she still refused. So this is really juvenile I sat on a sofa and wouldn't move until they agreed.

Think she got fed up and they collected it the next week left me without a sofa for 12 weeks though Angry

I'm going to whisper this I've got a gorgeous, leather DFS one and its lush and I get loads of comments Wink

Have you had a look at gumtree?

StrangerintheNight · 10/05/2013 23:38

Agree that SCS quality rubbish. We wanted some cheap sofas that we wouldn't mind the DC damaging, and found them in SCS, but ended up buying the exact same sofas via Gumtree for a quarter of the SCS price.

Would have been gutted if we'd paid the full price as they are really poor quality, and imagine you'll pay even more if you use a payment plan.

DFS leather 3 seater recliner sofa and armchair bought 8years ago and still looks great esp after a nice leather buff up. Got it on pay nothi g for a year, then you could pay in three years but we paid in full having saved the extra £500 we needed over the budget we had and earnt interest on the rest during that year.

Dfs seems to be the way to go then! :)

Before you go spending loads of money that you don't have why not have a quick look at Ebay local listings? I've seen sofas and 3 piece suites go for less than a tenner because people just can't transport them. Honestly - they go really cheaply - even if you then factor in hiring a man with a van to move it you'll still come out on top and free from 4 years of monthly payments. Worth a look anyway.

MrsLouisTheroux · 11/05/2013 08:30

They are massively overpriced and then you pay some more on top for credit. Ignore their 'Was £3000 then £2000 NOW £1500' gumph.
They are not worth the reduced price. (IMHO!)

Look on Sofasofa website or Google clearance sofas. If you can get store credit you will be able to get an 12/18 mth interest free credit card ( tesco good rates ATM). You can then buy anywhere.

Kafri · 11/05/2013 08:31

second ebay.
or, if you're on fb there are lots of local buy/sell/swap pages. im on 3 and they're all my immediate local area.

seen sofas go on there at grea prices.

MrsLouisTheroux · 11/05/2013 08:31

DFS /SCS both overpriced rubbish with made up discounts sorry!

We bought a new sofa from Nabru last week. It is excellent, far better than any DFS or SCS one. It is a huge 3 seater and cost £408.

chipsandpeas · 11/05/2013 10:49

i got my sofa from SCS 3 years ago and its still in good condition - dont know about the payment plans as paid outright for it - i didnt necessarily want to get it from SCS but they had a sofa i liked and could deliver it in the time i needed if i had more time then chances are i would have gotten it elsewhere

maristella · 12/05/2013 16:28

I had it for 8 years! Shock
It cost about £400 which I paid at £15 a month. It was so comfortable!

mrsSOAK · 12/05/2013 16:36

No experience of SCS, sorry but we got our beloved grey cord (fabulously comfy)2seater sofa ex display at homebase. It was 100quid with an extra 15% off for the particular weekend we found it. So by the time we'd paid for delivery it was just over 100 quid. When it was delivered we noticed it still had the label on it. Original price £599!
