I think I probably am being unreasonable.

I am looking to return to work after 5 years as a SAHM. All ask for a reference from your most recent employer, who was my Dad, he has since retired and the senior management team at the school has entirely changed as I phoned to speakto the deputy head who knew me to be told they had moved on.

I am not in contact with any of yhe previous SMT and just don't know what to do. As I am sure that even though he was my previous employer my Dad usn't allowed to do it as we are obviously related.

If your dad was your most recent employer than you will have to put him as a reference, but you can explain that in your covering letter and ideally provide two other references as well.

You can put the deputy head if you can get hold of him, it doesn't matter if he isn't there now, he can report on your performance when you worked for him. Is he at another school or retired? Harder to track down if retired but your dad may know.

What about one of the people that you worked with, you can put a college down as a reference, it doesn't have to be your manager.
I'm not sure that an employer would take a manner of your immediate family as a reference.

Thanks for your help.

I have asked my Dad if he knows where the old deputy is but he doesn't know. I assume she is at another school as I was told moved on. I shall investigate her whereabouts and try to get in contact with her.
