... Are the Ha Hoos (apostrophe?) on ITNG sentient brings with free thought? Most of the other characters appear to have a defined role within the programme as either free thinking characters or props (the balls, the bed). The Ha Hoos are not as clearly defined however.

DH and I have been debating this for a while, and have decided to put it to the Mumsnet jury.

I think they're about as intelligent as sheep.

I think there's a lot more going on there than they'd like to have us believe.

I think they're actually super intelligent and using mind control over the weak-minded characters. Also over Upsy Daisy's bed, have you seen how they're trying to run her over with it?!

They are pillows, so I would say a prop

You look, they're there in the background making al the others do a silly dance like puppets - they're really the ones in charge.

Watching Night Garden here as well. In fact, DP has taken DD for her bath and I'm still watching Night Garden. I think the Ha Hoos are lesser beings than the others somehow...a bit like as fish are to mammals.

I always get slightly emotional at the thought that the whole thing is a figment of Iggle Piggle's imagination. Won't let onto the DSs about that though.

The Ha Hoos are definitely some sort of sinister control device. Possibly like the giant ball things in The Prisoner. I can just see their inane expressions suddenly changing and becoming all scary and threatning . While we're on the subject, I also think the Pontipines and the Wottingers are members of a weird sect / cult Not that I've thought about this much of course

I think they want to eat the smaller characters, hence bouncing ominously towards them, but they're just too slow.

I'm REALLY glad that I'm not the only one that thinks too much about this and watches it even once DS is in bed

The Pontis and the Wottingers ARE a weird sect/cult. I didn't know the Garden was supposed to be Iggle Piggle's dream

I'm only guessing HandMini, it seems like it's maybe his dream time, before settling to a good night's sleep.

DH & I have discussed ITNG at length since DD expressed an interest in it & have decided:

• Makka Pakka is a drug dealer. His obsession with stones is a cover - they are rocks of crack.
• Upsy Daisy is an addict, she has no home & hides one of Makka Pakka's stones in her bed.
• Mrs Pontipine & Mrs Wottinger are sisters. Mrs Pontipine married for love & they are poor. However Mrs Wottinger married for money, as evidenced by the fact that they are rarely there; it's their holiday home.
• The Pontipines may also be addicts. They are always losing their children & make them travel on the roof of the Ninky Nonk, they also make the children eat runny grovels while the parents eat cakes.
• The Ha Hoos are projections of transdimensional gods (like the mice in 'Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy').

Clearly, we have too much time on our hands.

See we just had them down as a bunch of social misfits (with the added dimension of the all powerful Ha Hoos). Throw in drugs and it takes on a whole different life.

I also suspect there may be some degree of incest going on with the Pontipines and Wottingers, and that there are extra hidden children in the lofts.
