To think if I bit someone at work

I'd be sacked?

So why has Luis Suarez only been fined by his club?

He's done this before, surely the club needs to make a stand against the little thug?

God I despair that these twats are role models for kids these days.

Footballers are thugs though. The thuggish and odious behaviour is rife from grass roots up. Unless the governing bodies start coming down really hard on this kind of thing it will just continue. It is one of the reasons I loathe football.

my 9 year old DD isn't a thug Callisto and she plays football - I have watched football all my life and am also not a thug

If he had done this at a rugby match then he would have been disciplined and have a match ban.

Football makes me so Angry

How can you expect children at grass roots level to play fair when they see this happening with no consequences.

I love football but the way the top players aren't held accountable for their actions frustrates me.

DS is becoming really interested in it and I don't want him to think this behaviour is the norm.

It is the norm in football though. Along with spitting, racial abuse and other assorted nasties.

I would imagine that that's the clubs initial response and that the FA will do something ( like a ban ) . Suarez may be a good player but he's more trouble than he's worth .

It's this footballers as Gods crap we've got going on. (famous footballers, not people generally who play football)

And the holy pound. It'll be something to do with money. Bringing it in, someone gaining it.

Will the club do anything that has the potential to lose them money, I suppose is the question.

Football is big business.

yanbu. I hate premiership football and everything it stands for. Overpaid brats the lot of them.

In real life you'd not only get sacked if you bit someone but the police would be at your door sharpish.

I personally think he should be reported to the police and if I had anything to do with the other player thats what I would be encouraging.

Funny how I watched a bunch of hot headed 12 year olds manage to get through a game on Saturday without attacking each other, what excuse does a grown man have?
DS watched the playback of it and neither of us could bring ourselves to tell him off when he called Suarez a knob..
YANBU, this isn't even the first time he's done it, he should be kcked out of the game.

He'll never stop acting like a knob when he gets away with it every time.

I just wish someone would make an example of him, but like you say, it's a business.

Yes and if the red had seen it during the match he'd have been disciplined and banned. He wasn't so just like in rugby they're now investigating the incident and he'll most likely be banned.

I've played both sports all my life and love both but the sanctifying of rugby is ridiculous. If you compare it to football rugby regularly has punches thrown which in most cases is treated as a scuffle or flair up or at most a yellow card, it's punished properly in football and rarely occurs.

I'm always amazed at rugby being held up as this shining beacon, it's a sport that has for over a decade failed to address and punish properly the practice of eye gouging. I can only imagine the man reaction if a footballer intentionally tried to injure or blind an opponent, but with rugby we brush over it.

Both sports have huge internal problems but neither are in a position to take the high ground.

Have 2 recent incidents which didn't result in the player being dismissed from the match

YANBU, he's nothing more than an overpaid thug and I'm disgusted that some many of my friends and family are laugh about, but then they supported him over the racism he directed at Evra.

is it bollox. I can think of maybe 3-4 incidents in the the last 10-15 years and two of them involve the same player.

Agree Suarez should have the book thrown at him, and I'd love to see the FA - preferably FIFA ban him for a year, (particularly as he did it once before in 2010 - that's how courts work isn't it - take into a/c your prev record when sentencing) but I doubt if they'll have the balls.
However, Callisto and Secret Scwirrals are talking rot.
Suarez being a thug, does not make the hundreds of thousands of people across the country that play football week in, week out all the same as him anymore than any other ridiculous generalisation.

I can never understand why the Police don't prosecute. They have bloody TV footage of an assault. How much easier could it be? I like in the land of ice hockey and it is worse here. People get injured all the time, deliberately. 'Part of the game' my arse. Prosecute them. I guarantee it wouldn't happen then.

I think rugby give a longer ban if its a second offence - 24 weeks.

It's his second offence isn't it ? Although don't know whether he was disciplined for that.

A previous England rugby player was given a 80 match ban once and another international rugby player received a jail sentence for biting.

I thought we had got over the injured party having to make a complaint. I thought now the Police prosecuted if they had enough evidence. Or it that just in DV cases?

No they can proceed in any case without an injured party complaint as its the state not the victim who brings the case
However for low level stuff like this its seen as common sense to say if the injured party isn't bothered or has accepted an apology then there's little point in going ahead

Except this is a man who has bitten two people. Once I wouldn't necessarily say prosecute but he got away with it once, now twice.
