You think this is pretty shoddy behaviour towards DH?

DH's parents are divorced & has two DC from a previous marriage who DH barely knows, he is now married for the third time.
His wife called DH today to tell him his Dad is in hospital (potentially serious condition) & has been since Saturday.... His other DC knew and have been to see him, DH is obviously upset but also Hmm that he wasn't told until today. AIBU to think this is pretty shoddy treatment?

YANBU but what was the situation? Had his mum and dad fallen out badly. Has your DH fallen out with his dad?

Damselion · 17/04/2013 20:25

His parents split up when he was 3 and he's now 33. Dad lives back in his hometown where his other DC also live.

They get on well, never fallen out but they have been known to go for a few months without calling each other. FIL & his wife rarely come to visit us though even though they only live about an hour and a half away, this does upset DH, especially as FIL sees his other DC.

Perhaps the severity of the condition wasnt apparent until today.. so they didnt think it really necessary to contact him.

Does your husband go to visit his dad? Is he close to his siblings?

Damselion · 17/04/2013 20:43

They knew what was wrong with him as soon as he went in, they had to call an ambulance. We rarely visit them, they chain smoke cigars in the house and we have 3 young DC, it's really overpowering and makes all our eyes water & throat hurt. Not close to siblings, he's only met them a few times, does speak to his step sister sometimes though.
