In November I treated myself to a new pair of winter boots. I thought that this year I would invest in a decent pair that would last me a few years. I chose a pair from a well known work boot brand thinking that they would be good quality.
However, today I've noticed the start of a big hole on the bottom and wearing thin on the underneath of the other one.
I'm gutted because I love these boots and won't be able to afford to replace them. I want to complain because I feel ripped off, they were expensive. But I have had them for months so feellike a complaint is a bit much really.
So wibu to complain? ( please be gentle I'm very sad)

I'd complain. They shouldn't fall apart in a couple of months.

Could you just get them re-soled? I've just had my winter boots re-heeled as I had worn them down on one edge.

Can you get them re-soled? I'd assume that if they were everyday-type boots they'd need re-soling every now and then, though 5 months seems a little soon maybe?

You could complain, especially if they are Timberland - their work boots have a 10 year guarantee so I'd imagine you could redo ably expect better wear. Also, sometimes companies get lots of complaints about certain styles. You never know.

Complain. Not fit for purpose. Not surprised you are upset. I had a jumper from Monsoon ages and ages ago that wore through on the side after a couple fo months. I took it back, expecting a fight, and they said they had had all sorts of problems with that particular jumper and gave me a full refund. You might find the same with these boots.

Citizen's Advice Bureau are pretty helpful about these sorts of things.

Thanks everyone. They are caterpillar boots but I got them from a catalogue. Should I complain to caterpillar directly or try through the catalogue first?

If you've been wearing them constantly for 5 months and walking in them every day then I think YABU. If you don't wear them very often then YANBU

I've not worn them everyday for loads of walking but they haven't exactly been hardly worn either.

Goods which show signs of damage through normal use after 6 months (or less) from purchase are deemed to be inherently faulty, whereas if you had had them for longer than 6 months you would need an independent report. I would complain and ask them to refund, repair or replace.

I spoke to the customer service dept at the catalogue today and if they feel that they are faulty after inspection I'll get a full refund
