To want --expect-- a slice of cake

if I provided a key ingredient as a favour?

I know I should hand over the contents of my kitchen cupboards without expectation as a good neighbour but it's a delicious cake and I am very greedy! perhaps she's doing me a favour

Only if it's Lemon Drizzle or Coffee and Walnut

Otherwise yabu.

HotCrossPun · 13/04/2013 18:39

You are going to need to give us more info than that to decide whether YABU or not Grin

frogspoon · 13/04/2013 18:40

YANBU but the cake might be for something special e.g. a birthday cake.

fishybits · 13/04/2013 18:41

It's an amazing apple sponge. I gave her the apples without which it wouldn't exist. I smelt it cooking yesterday Sad

OP posts:
fishybits · 13/04/2013 18:42

Nope not for anything special. She just said she felt like making one.

YANBU

OTTMummA · 13/04/2013 18:54

YADNBU

wannabedomesticgoddess · 13/04/2013 18:54

YANBU.

I once made a cake for my cousins birthday (shes much younger) and ofcourse was invited to the party. Never even got a slice of the fucking cake. That I made!!

picnicbasketcase · 13/04/2013 18:55

It should be law that if you make or provide any ingredients for a cake, you automatically get at least one slice. It's only right.

Loislane78 · 13/04/2013 18:59

Have you got an apple tree? Or does she randomly ask for key ingredients to dishes - I'm making a roast, got any beef going spare? Grin

fishybits · 13/04/2013 19:00
Grin

I feel slightly better now although still hungry.

YANBU

Your neighbour is rude.

MMcanny · 13/04/2013 19:02

She's being a bitch. Never speak to her again, or better, wage a war of hatred.

fishybits · 13/04/2013 19:03

No apple tree or spare rib roast.

I'd said how good the cake was to another neighbour and the cake neighbour over heard and said she felt like making one but had no apples so I offered.

OP posts:
StuntGirl · 13/04/2013 20:22

Well if you offered that's slightly different than her asking, but she should still give you a slice I think. Don't offer next time!

thermalsinapril · 13/04/2013 20:24

Go round and ask for a slice. If she's cheeky so can you be.

fishybits · 13/04/2013 22:17

I could be cheeky and ask for a slice but it would embarrass her me if it's all gone. There's a teenage boy in the house so empty cake plate syndrome is pretty likely.

OP posts:
ChaoticTranquility · 14/04/2013 00:47

Next time she makes a cake and needs an ingredient that you have then offer it with the condition that you get a slice of cake.

YouTheCat · 14/04/2013 01:09

I've got some banana cake I made yesterday, if you like?

YANBU - she should give you cake.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/04/2013 01:13

Steal the milk from her doorstep and tell her about the delicious custard you made (she won't be able to prove it was you)

Unless she's got CCTV Wink

Theicingontop · 14/04/2013 08:39

I made my friend's wedding cake for free and never got a slice Sad

Neither did anyone else though, she took it home and froze it, the stingy cah.

2rebecca · 14/04/2013 09:27

I expect it didn't occur to her, my neighbours and grow stuff and give each other stuff, it never occurred to me to expect a share of whatever they cooked with it.
Why not just make another cake yourself? If you bought the apples then why did you give them away? I'd have given her the recipe and she could buy some apples when she went to the supermarket and you could make the cake and give her a slice. Seems odd to buy apples then give them away and then moan about it.

fishybits · 14/04/2013 10:15

^^

There's always one isn't there.

It's a lighthearted thread taking the piss out of myself for being greedy. Get a sense of humour.

OP posts:
Theicingontop · 14/04/2013 10:18

Yeah OP, you sound so... entitled.

fishybits · 14/04/2013 10:24

You missed out grabby.

Anyway, have seen neighbour and apparently the cake was very good, moist even due to the type of apples I gave her. I'm beginning to think she's taking the piss out of me GrinGrin

No thank you for the apples and yep cake inhaled by growing like a weed son, can't say I blame him. It smelt great.
