To think PayPal is really quite complicated?

Setting up a PayPal account to link to an eBay account to shift a few old things.

Bloody hell.

It now says 75% done, to complete your account activation, make a purchase. What? I don't want to make a purchase! I want to sell stuff. On eBay.

And what's all this verified/unverified business? And I've already put in a bank account for it to work during set up; why do I need to put it in again to verify it? I don't understand

Setting it up can be a bit of a ballache but once it's done you never have to think about this shit again!

Ooooh, I'm getting really cross with the bloody thing now

So I've got to buy something to activate the account? Eh?! I just need to sell stuff that's getting in my way! We actually have a 'crap cupboard'

I had to join to make a payment a few weeks back. Was a total pain in the ass. I didn't know if the payment had gone through until it came out of my bank account days later.

I now have a letter from PayPal which I am going to have to keep in case another organisation only accepts payments through them.

Why does it have to be so complicated?

yama I know, it's ridiculous! I still can't understand it. Apparently I'm 75% of the way there... Perhaps I can also activate it by making a transaction ie selling something on eBay?

Still don't understand the verified/unverified account bit. It says you need to link your bank account to it to verify yourself, but I've already put in account details to set up PayPal! Why would I need to do it again?!

To verify, they put 2 small amounts in your bank account (couple of pence each) and put a code number on it. You then tell them the code number and voila all done. I know its a nuisance when you feel that you're just repeating yourself, but you're nearly done

Paypal is a pain in the arse.

I accidentally deleted my bank account from PP a few months ago. I have funds in there that I can't take out without re-adding my bank account. I can't add my bank account because it is in my married (divorced) name, but my PP is in my maiden name. I can only change my PP name by FAXING a copy of my marriage certificate. Fax? Seriously? Who uses a frigging fax machine these days??

don't accept it if folk are collecting items. cash or bank transfer only.

I have forgotten my log in and I tried to buy something online good god I couldnt get into it I couldnt work any of it out so i just didnt bother

slatternlymother, if they pay by paypal but collect the item then there is a scam where they claim that they never recieved the item (no proof of postage), they then open a dispute with paypal and get their money back.

Yes, sorry I buggered off that's correct, if you have any sort of dispute with your buyer then you'll probably need to provide online, trackable proof of delivery and that's where you can come unstuck if they claim it didn't arrive - it's always safest to send recorded when you sell on ebay.

You have to accept Paypal if a seller on ebay, you have no choice, reardless of buyers collecting.

Afaik you can ask for it to be paid cash if its collection only.

Just to stand up for Paypal a little we've had it for 4 or 5 years and found the whole process a joy. We buy and sell personal items (not a business) on Ebay but other specialist shops we buy from take Paypal now as well.

At the end of the day it has allowed us to take credit card payments with a fraction of the fuss of being allowed to take Visa/Mastercard.

the account verification is so that a fraudster can't set up a paypal and link it to your bank account!!! it's important.
somebody described how it works upthread, you check your statement and type in the code by the transactions (which will only be a couple of pence).

I use paypal to accept payment for events that an oganisation i am admin for run, it's the easiest way. Particularly if anybody is abroad (do you know it would have cost £25 to send £50 to germany via banks, it was less than a £ by paypal).

I'm pissed off with it too.

They want me to get verified so that I can buy something from Ebay. That I will be paying for with my credit card. So they can whistle for my bank details.

It makes no sense. I can buy anything from any other website in the world with credit card details but with PP I need to verify myself?
