to feel aggrieved at the nursery?

Cross about this one. I was driving home after walking the dog and my mobile phone rang - fairly important call re a house sale so I pulled over and answered it. It was a normal 'street', quite rural and with big houses with a fair bit of land between them but all the same there were cars parked on the street (not many but still, it wasn't a 'no parking' sort of zone.)

I was only on the phone for a minute or so but was a bit upset after the phone call so just sat for a minute sending someone a text when someone thumped on my car window, really making me jump. I wound the window down and was asked what I was doing and I explained that I was answering my mobile phone. "Well you can't stop HERE. This is a nursery." I wasn't blocking the drive or anything, by the way! I had been just about to move on but her attitude really made me cross.

AIBU?

Ha! I live opposite a nursery in a similar street and they'd have to move all the nursery workers' cars before anyone would even pretend to pay a blind bit of attention to that - and even then they wouldn't really pay attention.

Smartieaddict · 12/04/2013 15:01

How odd! No YANBU. Is there some sort of law against stopping in front of a nursery? Hmm

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 15:03

Were there zig zags on the road?

themoonandback · 12/04/2013 15:07

I don't think so Moominalthough I'll be honest and say I can't be totally, absolutely sure. I don't think it was that though as the woman seemed more "omg, can't stop here, you could be a paedophile!" than "oi, fucker, you can't park here."

It made me feel shit, and her banging on my window made me feel murderous. It also wound the dog up.

I suspect she is a local who gets pusses off with folks parking to drop off/pick up kids. I would've wet myself if someone came up and banged on my window.

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 15:11

Pusses? What is gong on with my typing today.. ?? 'Pissed'

themoonandback · 12/04/2013 15:12

Haha. No she was a nursery worker - she came out of the building. Stupid cow should be more charitable but not in the mood

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 15:13

You had her space then!

YoniDaChillOut · 12/04/2013 15:22

didn't you ask her what specifically was the problem with you parking there as it wasn't blocking any access?

themoonandback · 12/04/2013 15:39

Yoni - all she said was "well this is a nursery, there are children here."

Confused

Go back tomorrow and leave the car there all day.

cozietoesie · 12/04/2013 16:07

I think that Moomins has it !

squeakytoy · 12/04/2013 16:09

I would have just said "and??" and wound my window back up.

YoniDaChillOut · 12/04/2013 17:56

odd. what exactly did she think your car was going to do to the children ?(that were presumably not on the road where you were parked)

OhDearNigel · 12/04/2013 18:03

OhDearNigel · 12/04/2013 18:05

Aargh stupid iPad !

LimitedEditionLady · 12/04/2013 18:18

Sounds like the nursery isn't that busy if she has time to come out and be aggressive to a stranger!Should've asked her if she was a nursery nurse or a traffic warden,or perhaps she just likes banging on car windows on her break?

glossyflower · 12/04/2013 18:41

No YANBU. She sounded like a grumpy bitch.

I once drove 6 hours go visit my aunt in Scotland.
When I got to her area I went the wrong way so pulled into the first road I saw to turn round and go back. It was a small cul se sac, no one about.
At the junction to come out a very angry Scotsman came over to shout at me "NO TURNING IN HERE THIS IS A PRIVATE ROAD DON'T DO IT AGAIN!"
Honestly the man frightened the life out of me and made me cry!

themoonandback · 12/04/2013 18:47

It was weird.

I did contemplate ringing them up to complain but thought that was too "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" and they'd probably laugh at me Grin but I was/am really fucked off by it!

thebody · 12/04/2013 18:50

Don't blame you op I would be seething.

ShadowStorm · 12/04/2013 19:46

How bizarre.

What did she think you were going to do to the children? Or the nursery?

Unless there were yellow lines / zig-zags on the road, there's presumably no reason why you couldn't have stopped there.
