Admittedly I'm trying to clean an oven door that hasn't been cleaned in so long that its actually an orange opaque colour....

Where did you expect the muck to go? it just lifts it, you still have to wipe it off and polish the door.

no, that's the point..... its not lifting the muck at all..... I've tried cillit bang and lenor and its still not moving... just getting wet. tried a brillo pad on it too.

have you the nossle on the right setting does the muck spray everywhere or just stay my cleaner sometimes drips you need to make sure you hold it the right way or 'something' kinda drives me up the wall tbh

I have the same problem. I don't mind wiping it off, but after heating/steaming it for several minutes in e same bit I do expect it to move a little when I wipe, not look exactly the same!

The ads are so misleading.

I would get 2 boxes oven pride, put the racks in the bag supplied and use the chemical way for a deep clean, then use the steam cleaner to keep on top of the oven

well, I have combined the brillo and the steam cleaner and it has worked, but the whole point of me buying a steam cleaner was because I get pain in my elbows if I press down too hard.

I guess there are no shortcuts

I am a cleaner and IMO steamers are rubbish.

There are over 30 in work that don't get used, because its time consuming and you still need to put the work into getting things clean.

Infact we only use them now on ward that are going to be hpv cleaned.

I use mine to keep on top of big things (bathroom walls every now and then) or very hard to reach places (oven door hinges & gas hobs). Had initially bought it for windows but was not as good as regular elbow grease and windoline!

I don't really know.

It's basically a whole ward is shut and every thing is steamed cleaned and a special machine is used.

It takes around a month to do a ward with 4 domestics on the job

I've had one of those Steam Devils for years and all it does it make me hot, bothered and my hair frizzy.

I was hoping the newer models of steam cleaners might be better.

Which cleaner do you have? Is it the green one?

I have a vax hand held one and I was so excited about it when I bought it I had a thread it isn't that great and it drips and I get frizzy hair as well

mrsjay I enclosed myself in the shower to clean the glass and created a perfect sauna.

Not good when you are fully clothed though

I had a steam cleaner years ago, total waste of money. I LOVE oven pride, takes all the work out of cleaning the oven.

I don't think they're a waste of money but they're one tool of many - not the solution to all your problems. I bought a Karcher with fitments and its been used for heavy duty cleaning at sporadic intervals with ordinary methods in between. I think it's great.

By the way - I'm glad someone else had to get naked into the shower to do it. I felt a real failure because I couldn't think of another solution!

PS - and I was lucky in that I already had a dehumidifier. I definitely wouldn't do a heavy steam clean in winter without one - they produce one heck of a lot of moisture.

I bought one from QVC - which demonstrated the most amazing steam cleaning antics ... toilets, grouting, floors, ovens etc. ''The dirt just melts away - one wipe and it's gone''.

I was soooo disappointed when it arrived, i tried it and it was shite. I tried it on the hard to get at thin line of grime around the burners on my hob and iterally nothing happened apart form making it a bit wet.
