to not understand people constantly posting on Facebook whilst they're on holiday?

LilyLovesRoses · 05/04/2013 17:16

I have one friend who is currently on holiday - in an extremely hot and faraway place

She has done nothing but constantly update people on Facebook about -

A - The weather every single day. To the exact temperature.

B. Posted photos every single day. Beers by the pool entitled "another busy afternoon"

C. How beautiful the hotel is, how many chandeliers it has.

D. The six course dinner she has just eaten.

And so on and so on.

I mean there's showing off and then there's blatant in your face showing off like this.

I really want to comment saying - if you're having such a good time where are you constantly on Facebook?

But that would be bitchy right?

OP posts:

O usual. Sigh. You sweet naive girl.

What you have been doing is just blatantly FORCING people to open a Facebook account, log onto it daily or even hourly, then COMPELL them to read about the wonder of you until they feel nauseous and just have to start another whiney thread about Facebook.

They have absolutely no choice you see. No free will. It's tragic.

BooksandaCuppa · 06/04/2013 00:25

usual - dh doesn't have a wall at all - he uses fb purely to pm music and theatre type contacts.

And I don't post photos on hols or days out and tend to do them afterwards. Mostly cos if there's not free wifi I'm a bit tight.

But I couldn't give two hoots if other people do (unless it's your honeymoon. That is a bit wrong, imho).

Spero · 06/04/2013 00:26

Books - you are a burglar and I am afraid your husband is just unnatural and possibly evil.

borisjohnsonshair · 06/04/2013 00:27

Isn't that what Facebook is for? Showing off? That's all I seem to see people doing anyway. Either that or banging on about how much they love their kids and are sooo proud of them.

Spero · 06/04/2013 00:27

In the unlikely event I ever have a honeymoon I am posting a live feed of all the action just to really piss people off.

Or possibly make them feel a bit ill.

usualsuspect · 06/04/2013 00:28

I have 3g on my phone, and free internet.

Don't cost me nowt.

But now I know people are forced to look at my wall I will step away from the phone.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2013 00:28

I love seeing pictures of close family and friends when they're away.
My lovely niece was in New York last year on her own, and I loved following her updates and adventures.

usualsuspect · 06/04/2013 00:29

OMG people are proud of their kids?

The bastards.

Spero · 06/04/2013 00:29

Well boris your 'showing off' might be someone else's sharing stuff that makes them happy in the hope that their friends might be interested.

Horses for courses innit. Don't like it, don't use it.

BooksandaCuppa · 06/04/2013 00:29

spero - he is a little unnatural. But he's also in charge of child protection at a school and has had to sack people around misuse of fb/work email so has to be exemplary in his own use (and no, I would never tag him in random crappy photos just to pee him off Grin)

Spero · 06/04/2013 00:30

The really sick thing is that my mum was quite interested in seeing pictures of her grand daughter as she is a 2 hour drive away. What a bitch.

Spero · 06/04/2013 00:31

Books - o the power!

exoticfruits · 06/04/2013 06:42

I never realised that FB caused such angst.

HollyBerryBush · 06/04/2013 07:09

I have a friend who is teaching in a Middle East school. Daily up dates, same picture really of him on a sun lounger, shot of his feet pointing towards pool or ocean OR a picture of his fry up to cure the night before . Two years of daily shots like that, and commenting on our poor weather is tedious.

Another friend is teaching in China; compare his photos of temples, markets, people, places, architecture to the drunken sot in the ME, and there is no comparison really.

Both is can be argues are posting pictures of their life style, one just happens to be interesting, the other a drunken bore.

exoticfruits · 06/04/2013 07:11

You do not have to be friends with these people!

BellaVita · 06/04/2013 07:22

Wonders if OP is on my friends list?

Agree with Usual.

I am sitting by the pool at this very minute... I couldn't give a flying fig about whether my friends like/don'tlike my updates. Tbh they can delete me if they don't.

You sound jealous OP!

Iaintdunnuffink · 06/04/2013 07:49

I'm jealous of you BellaVita Grin

Enjoy your holiday.

Crawling · 06/04/2013 07:54

I will be doing this I have been given £1000 between two family members because I have two dc with sn one severe they wanted us to take a break so we are going to Florida. I will be posting on fb to update them of where their money has gone. Ob I wont memtion on fb they gave me money. But my mum also worries about me as I have a major mental illness so again regular updates on fb show I am well and are cheaper than phoning and more regular than postcards.

Crawling · 06/04/2013 07:56

Also alot of my family live abroad and dont get to see dc much they love updates on fb.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 06/04/2013 07:57

I love seeing what my friends are doing.

BellaVita · 06/04/2013 08:00

Iaint, we fly home tonight Sad so you can stop being jealous [grin_

LifeIsBetter, me too.

BellaVita · 06/04/2013 08:02

Oooops Grin trying to post from a sun lounger is hard work you know...Wink

EuroShaggleton · 06/04/2013 08:45

It's just the modern equivalent of the postcard isn't it? Which are also a bit showoffy when you think about it.

Personally I never post on facebook when on hols because I don't want to put a big indicator out there that my house is empty and will be for a while, because you never know where that news will end up. I do occasionally send friends stuck in the office a pic of me on a sunlounger with a cocktail though, just to annoy them. This tends to be particularly effective at winding people up if you are on a winter sun break and the weather is particularly shit at home. Grin

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 06/04/2013 09:00

My SIL who is the queen of Facebook boasting by stealth is away on holiday with another couple in a caravan just now. The other woman is just as prolific on Facebook and it's hilarious they are both hung up on updating against each other by tagging the other in their status. Then the other had to comment and on and on it goes. They are staying in the same caravan so can only imagine they only converse through Facebook.

Portofino · 06/04/2013 09:02

I have seen BellaVita's holiday pics and I am Envy. It looks a fab place. In return she gets to look at mine next week Grin except DH and I are going to the Netherlands where the forecast is for rain and it has been so bloody cold tthere are no tulips to look at.
