WHY do they build vehicle that ago XXXX amount of speed, when our highways do not allow it!?! WHY do they build vehicles with "race car" qualities????

Makes no sense.

Because people will buy them!

Ah but, in some countries there are no speed limited to abide by! I could be wrong, of course, but someone in Germany for example, could have a British made car exported to them and drive at a scary speed on the Autobahn!

There may come a day when the change the ridiculously outdated speed limit on motorways.

Back in the late 1960s, my dad's car could do 30mph on a good day. 70mph would've been a pipedream.

Now most cars can do 70 no trouble.

Maybe if the speed limit was altered we wouldn't have so much tailgating?
(I don't mean 150mph or anything mad, maybe 90 mph limit, 100 for overtaking)

Here in Canada, I believe the MAX legal speed for driving is 120 km, or 70 mph... Yet, so many vehicles are build for WAYYY more than that... like 250 km!!! (155 mph)

US and Canada have pretty reasonable speed limits... sometime TOO slow...but lets build and encourage people to speed, or hope Germany buys them? LOL

There are soo many deaths on our hwys, even accidents from the police chasing them.... seems stupid to build unsafe vehicles..

I can limit the speed on my car. The max is set to 300mph which I am sure my car cannot do :) makes me giggle every time. Alfa Romeo, I luffs you I do.

Most engines are designed to go to certain speeds and have quick torque responses. The end product is normally an engine with 140ish capabilities. Not all cars are marketed at Britain. Yes restrictors could be put in for British roads but would have to be adjusted if the car went to Germany etc

It is the responsibility of the person behind the wheel to make sure the speed limit is adhered to.
