To be irritated by Blogs/Blogging

when it is really just what people get up to in their everyday lives. Friends have started posting links to their blogs on Facebook and most of what they write is so dull and uninteresting. Many people think they can sing but karaoke proves otherwise. Similarly many people think that they can write but blogs prove otherwise.
I do appreciate that there are some good blogs out there but a lot if it is self indulgent dross in diary form.

YABU.
You don't have to read them.

SoWhatIfImWorkingClass · 01/04/2013 04:18

YANBU. I really couldn't care less about what people write on blogs. Hence why I don't read them and concentrate on things that won't bore me.

Tee2072 · 01/04/2013 07:33

And who, exactly, is holding a gun to your head making you read them?

NynaevesSister · 01/04/2013 09:17

Don't read them! A few blogs are genius and I love reading them. It is a pain to wade through the bad ones but I usually check out those blogs that people link to on FB and Twitter so I don't have to. Unless a v good friend I don't visit blogs in links or when people say hey come see my blog!

Amykins · 01/04/2013 09:49

On the positive side, they often don't keep them going for ages. I often wonder if people who write boring blogs (but think they are brilliant) are surprised when no one reads or comments on how wonderful they are. I started a pregnancy blog years ago and wrote two entries.

DoJo · 01/04/2013 10:27

YABU - don't read them. I understand that the minutiae of other people's lives are rarely interesting, but that shouldn't stop them from creating a record if they choose to, and you are free to ignore them if they bother you in the same way that someone keeping a paper diary shouldn't bother you if you never read it.

NigellasLoveBuns · 01/04/2013 10:44

Obviously no one is holding a gun to my head. These people post on my Facebook and I just go and have a look. I just applaud them for thinking that their lives are so interesting that everyone needs to know what they have been upto on a minute by minute basis. And it really is a whole bag of cliche ridden rubbish. This has made me realise that I should give up hope that one day they might have something interesting in. Off to Facebook to change my settings.

Yabu. I love blogs! They are mostly funny for the exact reason that the writer takes them-self so seriously. The fashion ones in particular can be hilarious.

BlackAffronted · 01/04/2013 10:56

My blog has nothing to do with my day to day life, its about recipes I have created or tried, and sharing them with others (mostly my friends family who are always asking me for recipes). Don't tar us all with the same brush :)

Bumperlicious · 01/04/2013 10:56

Sure some blogs are irritating, but doesn't mean you should write the whole medium off. People get a lot from blogging, just check this thread out.

Oh and badly written minutiae of people's lives? not much different from Mumsnet

MarjoryStewartBaxter · 01/04/2013 10:57

YANBU. Also, your karaoke analogy is genius.

NigellasLoveBuns · 01/04/2013 12:44

Blackaffronted I am not tarring you all with the same brush. As I said in the original post I do appreciate that there are some good blogs. However I stand by my original statement that blogging about day to day life is dull. So people have a life and kids. So what? So do I but I don't feel the need to bore everyone with the printed version of my life.

Why bother to go and look at them if they're going to irritate you?

LilaFowler · 01/04/2013 13:11

Erm, just don't read them if they annoy you that much?! Confused

LilaFowler · 01/04/2013 13:14

Also, do you not see the irony of posting and reading threads on a site such as Mumsnet which is FULL of people's everyday shite Grin

Trills · 01/04/2013 13:14

YABU

The internet is full of things that I don't want to read.

ParsleyTheLioness · 01/04/2013 13:16

Yes, YABVU. I'm with Tee on this one...

tethersend · 01/04/2013 13:18

How do you know not to read them until you've read them?

It's the concept of blogging I struggle with. How sure do you have to be that people will be interested in anything you have to say?

Mind you, good point about irony of posting it on MN.

I might start blogging about that.

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 01/04/2013 13:20

YANBU to think some blogs are pointless, boring, shite by people with zero ability to write to entertain.

YABU to feel irritated by them.

LilaFowler · 01/04/2013 13:20

Some people blog just because they love to write, and so anyone actually reading it is a bonus.

Doesn't mean they all automatically think they're fascinating....

Bumperlicious · 01/04/2013 17:49

Read the link I posted, a lot of bloggers don't really care who reads them or what they think.

As for how do you know what they are like before you read them, well, as social media good blog are spread by word of mouth. If there is a blog you do like, they will often have a list of similar blogs they link to, which chances are you will probably like.
