To ban American children's TV

DD7 is banned from watching I Carly etc, as she was so cheeky yesterday, and full of back chat. I told her it was not acceptable several times. In the end I said I was sorry, it was obviously not her fault as she had picked up this horrible behaviour from TV, and she was banned. She has been ill, so watching a lot more television than usual.
Is it just me that finds this happens?

Not just that, it is the Americanisms that slip in that irritate me.

Closets, daipers etc. I have to keep pointing out that we are English!!

I don't let mine watch iCarly etc either for exactly that reason. The smaller kids stuff is okay,I know Tracy Beaker etc is full of mouthy kids but my children don't seem to pick up the attitude the same way!

YABU to use "American" as the deciding factor regarding whether a TV show is acceptable or not.

YWBU to apologise for telling her off and blame it on the tv, she was being naughty and you have just given her a get out for every naughty thing she does now.

My kids watch all that disney channel crap and are mostly well behaved, they know right from wrong regardless of whats on the tv.

YANBU to ban it though because it is all shite Grin

We stick to BBC channels. Avoids adverts too.

You're entitled to decide what your DD does or doesn't watch. But why ban all American TV - are they all the same? If not, then YABU.

American children's cartoons are appalling shite vehicles for merchandise anyway. Am currently sat happily with DSS2 (6), DD (10mo), & DP (other side of 50) watching Oggy & the Cockroaches which DP thinks is the best thing ever to come out of France. I'd never heard of it before I moved in with DP, which can't be a bad thing as I had no children before [buwink]

I already have. I've blocked every kids channel apart from CBBC. I can't tell you the relief.

They now mainly watch discovery channel tbh. My dd1 has become addicted to storage wars.

Ok, so I shouldn't generalise that much. I really mean whatever channel iCarly is on. I'm just hoping the skybox will die soon.
Missy, believe me, she really doesn't have a get out for any naughty thing she does! It would be too strong to call it naughty anyway, just cheeky, but irritating.
But I do see a relationship between hours of that chanel watched: amount of answering back and wondered if anyone else did!

Crikey- I haven't worked out how to block chanels. I have been waiting for the Sky box to die so we can just get freeview.

We don't even have a TV but are under the influence of Dennis the Menace and Horrid Henry. Any suggestions?

I prefer the US shows to Tracy Beaker, the attitude on that prog is shocking and DD behaviour/attitude is noticeably off when she's watched it.

I rate most BBC shows but hate TB and Dumping Ground with a passion, both shows now banned - Jessie, iCarly etc are highly annoying but tend to have the underlying '

My youngest sons aged 10 and 7 were watching a super hero cartoon earlier and the females looked like porn stars! Huge boobs, next to no clothes and very peachy bums, then the man and woman started snogging! I soon changed channels.
I now wish I wrote the same of the show down so I could complain.

It seems a shame to stop the shows. I hate Americanisms. But not sure I agree with banning certain children's TV shows unless they are offensive which they shouldn't normally be.

I've never had a problem with Tracy Beaker yet, because she hasn't ever wanted to watch it. I think the problem with iCarly is that it has attractive characters she aspires to be like. She doesn't copy The Simpsons for example, although we watch that quite often.
Anyway, now she's well again she is finding other things to do rather than watch too much tele.

I agree that iCarly and other such American programs should be banned. Home grown stuff like Grange Hill is preferable because it doesn't feature mouthy kids [inserts sarcasm emoticon]
