To think this man is a liar

I was waiting for a text from my friend yesterday which was really important and he insists he sent it but I know I didn't get it. I've had texts of him before.

AIBU to think he must be lying. If he sent a text I would have got it wouldn't I?

depends what sort of phone he has

i've sworn blind i've sent a few texts before only to find it sat in 'drafts' Blush

Bluelightsandsirens · 24/03/2013 16:33

And I've sent texts and people haven't received them for over day.

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree · 24/03/2013 16:36

Sometimes I've received a text a few hours after the sender has sent it. It does happen. And I know because one time it was from my Dad - and I was standing next to him - sans phone - when it randomly appeared!

HarrietSchulenberg · 24/03/2013 16:36

I received a text from a friend at 9.30pm on Friday. She'd sent it at 11.30am on Thursday. I'm on Orange and she's O2. It does happen.

Yep, another one who has sent texts that never arrived. It happens. Still a bit suspicious, but I'd give friend the benefit of the doubt, assuming they're not prone to lying!

DuchessFanny · 24/03/2013 16:47

I sent a very important message to my MIL and was a bit confused when she didn't reply, works out she didn't receive it 'til the next day .. bad reception in their area, it happens a lot ..

Montybojangles · 24/03/2013 16:53

Ive texted my mother and vice versa and it's sometimes delayed (one by 3 days!!). I'm vodaphone, she's tesco. Don't know which is to blame.
Has happened with others (as an above post, once I was sending a contact to a person standing next to me and it took half an hour to arrive!!). I think it can depend on how the reception is at the time of sending/ receiving.

magimedi · 24/03/2013 16:57

Depending where you live, reception may be pretty crap due to weather, I would imagine.

PhyllisDoris · 24/03/2013 16:59

Sometimes texts do get lost in the network somewhere. And can be delayed in busy times too.
He could be telling the truth.

NippyDrips · 24/03/2013 17:02

Step daughters mum has terrible signal. She text me the other day and she never got my reply. If its important, phone.

TheCrackFox · 24/03/2013 17:04

I've received texts at 3am that were sent 12-18hrs earlier. This was with Tesco mobile.

EggyFucker · 24/03/2013 17:05

I guess it depends if he is a liar, or dodgy, in other ways

A one-off ?

probs ok

Part of a pattern ?

Not ok

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/03/2013 17:08

I was standing next to dp yesterday when he asked me to text him some info so he had it written down, I sent the text but he didn't receive it so after 20 mins I text it again, this was at 11.30 he received both texts last night at 9.35. Technology isn't always as wonderful as we all think it is and calling your friend a liar isn't really very nice

livinginwonderland · 24/03/2013 17:15

yabu. i've recieved texts hours late before. if my phone is out of range, it takes hours for texts to come through unless i turn my phone off/on again several times over.

FryOneFatManic · 24/03/2013 17:18

Most phone companies I've had contracts with only state they aim to get a text delivered within 72 hours, ie 3 days.

I've had an important text sent by DP once. He got cross with me when he got home and I hadn't received the text and been able to do something he'd asked for that was urgently required, when we heard a bleep and the text was delivered at that point, some 10 hours after he'd sent it. He immediately apologised and said he should have realised when he'd heard nothing from me that I might not have received it and followed up with a phone call.

We are all so used to texts being delivered very quickly that we forget that there could be any reason for a delay.

EduCated · 24/03/2013 17:19

It happens. I'm guessing this is part of a wider story, though?

freddiemisagreatshag · 24/03/2013 17:19

Depends. With the amount of power cuts in some areas I wouldn't be surprised if that was affecting the mobile network and delaying texts

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 24/03/2013 17:51

It does sometimes happen. I have had the very odd text go missing. I have also had them arrive twice. And a message saying that it didn't go through and would I like to try again and later found out that it has gone through Hmm - that last one happens every christmas and new year. It's really odd.

Like fry's partner with them, I've played merry hell with my husband over not calling me only to be right there when the text pinged. Blush

FryOneFatManic · 24/03/2013 19:56

If it's urgent I now call, rather than rely on a text. I use texts for something that isn't immediately requiring an answer.

foslady · 24/03/2013 20:54

It took 6 weeks for a photo text to be received to MIL's phone from mine......

Pandemoniaa · 24/03/2013 20:54

I wouldn't necessarily assume he is a liar unless you've got good cause to suspect he is reliably unreliable with the truth. Only I've had texts that took over 12 hours to arrive and also sent texts that must have caught ambushed in some sort of text message black hole since they never arrived.

HollyBerryBush · 24/03/2013 21:52

Depends where you are in the country, weather conditions. I've had them arrives days after being sent.

If the phone masts are clogged with snow, it will block signals etc.
