Reposted here as property was quiet!! I have lived in the same town all my life and in my current home for 15 years, I have raised my child here, we have many fantastic memories. My family and freinds all live in the same town, but for the last few years, I have been tempted to move the family out of London into the surrounding areas, Kent, Sussex etc. The thought of doing so is very daunting, I know everyone here and many families are third generation raised in this town. However, I do crave some peace and quiet. Anyone else made this move after over 40 years? I am outgoing and social but not really one for church coffee mornings, happy to do volunteer work though.

We did it. Moved out of London to a v rural area. the important thing is to have plenty of time to throw yourself into your new life. Any social invitations, dos at school, people who ask you for coffee it has to be a yes and eventually you will settle in. 10+ years on i wonder why we didnt do it sooner but it has taken a few years to feel it was a good idea.

We moved out of London after 20 years - not regretted it especially as schools are much better than where we lived before.

We did it.

Went from London (zone 2/3) to rural Indiana USA.

Then rural Dorset.

I think you will be fine. Its amazing how humans adjust really.

Thanks for this ladies, it's sad, some days I look around at the town I call home and I barely recognise it, then this evening I went to my Sisters for a family Birthday and was greeted by massive hugs from all the small people in the house and I think how could I ever leave this town. My DD is pre sixth form so crucial time for her in terms of Education, tough one!!
