Hoover washing machine explosion

Yesterday our Hoover washing machine blew up - properly blew up - sending fragments of plastic around the kitchen, pouring out smoke and breaking the worktop it sits under.

Fortunately my partner and the two small girls present in the house were in the front room when it happened.

We have the washing machine under extended warranty with Domestic and General, so I phoned them yesterday and was given an order number to give to Hoover.

When I called Hoover this morning they didn't sound at all surprised by what had happened, and said an engineer would come round in a week (next Tuesday) or earlier if they had a cancellation.

Having Googled a bit since then, I see that Hoover washing machines have exploded in exactly the same way on a number of previous occasions (check out the comments under this local news item www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/cumbrian-family-s-lucky-escape-as-hoover-washing-machine-explodes-1.875355?referrerPath=home)

Quite apart from the fact that if my 1-year-old daughter had been standing next to the machine (as she often is) she could have been seriously hurt, we could now be stuck without a washing machine for at least a week!

Is it unreasonable to expect a better response from a company that know some of its machines explode like this?
