Yesterday I histed a Do in a hall.

At the end of the Do I fiund a mibile phone plugged in to a plug. Thinking it had been forgotten I took it home to try to return it. Messages and emails to everyone.

Went through the adressbook but it was empty.

I left it on all night but it didn't ring.

This morning DH has returned it to the hall booking manager.

It transpires it belongs to the club.

No label on it. Nothing in the Dos and Don'ts list.

And now they are narky because they thought it was stolen so have reported it to the police and cancelled it.

Why did he not either phone me or the phone before the police?

Should I be feeling bad about it?

Yanbu I would have done exactly the same thinking I was being helpful. They were in the wrong to leave it in a public place & to not even bother ringing it before reporting it missing.

WeAreEternal · 17/03/2013 10:56

Why did you take it?
Surely the logical idea would have been to hand it into the club and tell them it had been left, and then if anyone had lost it they could come back for it.

They should have tried calling the phone, but since they assumed it was stolen they probably didn't see the point. It's not like a thief would answer, they probably wanted to block it before the thief had chance to run up a bill or sell it.

The hall wasn't manned. There wasn't anyone to ask. I assumed it had been left by someone attending the Do and I could return it to them (scattered across the country, not locals).

I would have done the same. It was silly of the club not to have called you and asked and not to have called the phone.

TubGirl · 17/03/2013 11:00

I do feel bad though. I've given them extra hastle.

It could have been labled 'property of xxxx club. Please do not remove' or somesuch.

In that case you have no reason to feel bad.
If there was no staff why was a mobile left in the first place?!
It was obviously someone else's mistake, a staff member left it there and came back to find it gone. It's their fault, not yours.

WeAreEternal · 17/03/2013 11:04

I mean the staff member left it behind by mistake.

Are you Officer Crabtree?

Sorry Blush

The hall people were daft to cancel without checking with you first. You've done nothing wrong.

Floggingmolly · 17/03/2013 11:39

I'd have done the same. They're lucky it's never been stolen, tbh.
