With each minute of tv costing so much the expense spent on come hell or high water eg the support team they even had a helicopter just wondering

Would you not just have more funds by not doing the show and just donating the money it would otherwise cost to make it

I love red nose day do somting for money and all that its always been my thought

I am lost? What show? The one tonight? That's hardly going to busting any budgets.

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:17

Dose any one know if they have to pay the celebs or do they do it for free

I suppose by not just writing a check and doing the show they high light the issues

wigglesrock · 15/03/2013 18:18

I don't think there would be any where near the amount of money raised without the associated tv shows. From the actual show on tonight through to the ones of CBBC. I

Pancakeflipper · 15/03/2013 18:19

Majority do it for free.

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:20

Well red nose day shows have been on all week

Comic relif glee club
Come hell or high water ect

Just wondering if by the end of it all dose it work out cheapr to just write the check out instead of putting on the shows

In other words do you end up loosing money as i often wonder to they raise much more than it takes to make weeks worh of tv shows

Sorry missed a big whack out plus my 7 year old stuck some of her pocket money in a collection jar because One Direction highlighted the horribleness of malaria to her in a way I couldnt.

CloudsAndTrees · 15/03/2013 18:22

They pay for the programmes out of our TV licence fees, Hmm so anything they raise does go to the charity.

I hate the whole thing. I'm not tight when it comes to charity, I have two voluntary jobs and four direct debits to causes I care about. I just don't like this brand of charity.

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:23

wigglesrock thats sooooo sweet of her ds(13) is just watching a re run of hell and high water and just said i am so luckly to be able to go to school

Iaintdunnuffink · 15/03/2013 18:24

They have to pay for tv shows tonight anyway, an all night live show with sketches is probably relatively cheap? I don't think the celebs get paid.

I suppose they could just do re-runs of old tv shows, flash up a message to call and donate, that would have few overheads but how much would they actually raise, nothing like they would usually I suspect.

How much do those challenge trips cost compared to other programming? More than a wildlife show or Wonders of the Universe?

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:24

CloudsAndTrees has any one any idea how much it costs to but on a week of red nose day programes

2 things:

I LOVE it if only for French & Saunders fantastic parody of Mama Mia four years ago. I was suffering horrible PND at the time and it made me laugh harder than anything had in ages. Thank you F&S. And to anyone who hasn't seen it, You Tube it - you'll never watch Mama Mia again the same way.

However, they need to stop letting annoying teenage bands (One bloody Direction and The bloody Saturdays) ruin otherwise great songs (One Way Or Another and Just Can't Get Enough respectively). Just let them release another one of their own (cack) songs - it will still sell and I won't have to feel part of my soul dying every time DD plays 1D's murderous rendition of a Blondie classic...

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:26

Iaintdunnuffink i saw the support team and it looked pretty big they also hired a hellicopter, they have a doctor all sorts of rafts ect they have garuds with guns

Hope this is not a boaring thread but its somthing i always wanted to know

Pancakeflipper · 15/03/2013 18:26

It has to be current and engage people or monies won't be raised.

I think they are a smart outfit the Comic Relief team. Also smart move to not do RND each year. Keeps it more special

Domjolly · 15/03/2013 18:28

Yes i have to say i like it more than children in need

And i dont much like sport relif

OP posts:
WorriedMummy73 · 15/03/2013 18:32

Children in Need makes me criiiiiiinge! I gave up the year the newsreaders 'did' Duran Duran (one of my favourite bands). And Eastenders with yet another singalong in the sodding square! And the endless 'cast of's popping up - with ticket line numbers at the bottom of the screen. Shameless publicity grabbing much?

And Sport Relief can bore right off.

Chipstick10 · 15/03/2013 18:34

I won't be watching. I can't stand comic relief, it's a relief not to watch.

WorriedMummy73 · 15/03/2013 18:35

Forgot! David Tennant miming guitar with Franz Ferdinand. Swoon...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/03/2013 18:37

I don't watch any of it ever (or Children in Need) but still donate to both via school. However there are other charities that appeal more simply because I hate all the TV stuff so much.

midastouch · 15/03/2013 19:10

We'll be watching, looking forward to the vicar of dibley.

ENormaSnob · 15/03/2013 19:17

Can't stand it.

Iaintdunnuffink · 15/03/2013 19:24

Dom jolly I don't think it's a boring thread :)

There's some info here
www.comicrelief.com/about-us/our-organisation

I've worked in the charity sector before but never in tv. I am genuinely interested to know how much an expedition, or sending a celeb out to an African hospital costs compares to other evening programming. Say on a Friday evening you may have chat shows, soap and a drama.

grottielottie · 15/03/2013 19:32

The hell and high water challange logistics were organized and sponsored by bt so no donations went to it.

Gigondas · 15/03/2013 19:37

I don't mind it really although dont like all of it (yes one direction song is dire).

I would donate not to see Lenny Henry on tv.

Also when you have lost your hair to chemo, I am a bit Hmm about Jessie j shaving her hair . She will still look lovely ,I know it raises cash but her angst about it makes me raise my eyebrows.
