Its been two weeks since 2 different people stayed in our spare bedroom - Dniece (14) first night and the DBIL second night (they are father and daughter). I didn't change sheets between the stays because they are both generally clean people and are father and daughter. Plus it was one night after the other.

Now because I am a slattern knew we would not be having guests for a while and due to busy time workwise I have not changed sheets in there since DBIL left approx 12 days ago. Room door has been closed as it always is as not used much.

So this evening I go in there to strip bed and find a piss stain about 3ft by 2ft in centre of bed! Neither DN or DBIl mentioned having an accident and I am so cross as matress will now have to be thrown out and we can't afford to replace.

I have an inkling it was DBIL as he was drunk when he stayed over but I could be wrong. DP says nothing we can do about it now and to just bite the bullet. But would I be unreasonable to get DP to have a quiet word about this to DBIL as it was definately him or his daughter - surely he should replace the matress? Or am I being a battleaxe?

I understand the culprit was probably embarrassed but I don't want blood, just honesty and at least some help towards cost of replacement.

The worst thing about it all is that DS (2) woke up at 5am this morning and rather than stay in our bed and wake up DP who had been on lates we went and got (thankfully on top of the quilt in our dressing gowns) in to the spare bed for a cuddle before going downstairs.....boak.

I'm amazed you couldn't smell it tbh?

You don't need to get rid of the mattress there are ways to clean it.

dontknowwhat2callmyself · 02/03/2013 21:30

Smother it with bicarbonate of soda for a few days

shesariver · 02/03/2013 21:31

I dont think you have to go as far as getting a new mattress - if I had to do this every time my 5 year old had an accident over the last year I would be buying a new mattress every week! Get some febreeze.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 02/03/2013 21:33

Like I said - door was shut and has been since DBIL left, we don't go in there unless someone is coming to stay.

I think I prob didn't smell it when DS and I went in there this morning as we both have colds and my eyes were still sealed shut with it being 5am! Grin

Ok so even if we could get it cleaned - should we have to fork out the cost for that?

I don't think the mattress will need replacing either.

I imagine it must have been humiliating for BIL but as an adult he should have told you.
There is a chance it could have been the niece but as BIL was pissed he didn't notice it?

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 02/03/2013 21:35

And this is completely dried out now as its been so long - does this make a difference to being able to clean it? Its not wet at all - just smells and is obviously stained.

Yabu for not changing the sheets between the two visits. I'm sort of joking but got severely judged by the mumsnet jury for suggesting MIL should sleep on the same sheets as SIL.

HairyHandedTrucker · 02/03/2013 23:17

must haven't been you bil otherwise he would have gone to sleep in piss. rank. you should say something

HairyHandedTrucker · 02/03/2013 23:19

also why should you have to clean up piss even if it can be washed? also as it's your bil should have been in charge of sheets...and wee conversations!

Montybojangles · 02/03/2013 23:25

Get some pet odour/urine eliminator from the local vets. You mix the spray with water to activate it and the enzymes clean and neutralise any odour. If it can eliminate dog pee it must work on drink BIL accidents too!

FloraFox · 02/03/2013 23:30

Is he your DH's DB or your DSis's DH? Either way can you ask the in-between one to have a word? Or else get a new mattress but keep the old one. Next time he comes to stay, ask him to help you change the mattresses over while staring pointedly at the stain.
