to pray when I don't even class myself as religious.

I know - a total contradiction there. I was christened as a baby but don't go to church, never got married in church and never had my child christened yet often at night just before I go to sleep I'll say a little prayer. Might be about my family, about something I saw on the news, about someone I know. Anything really. I guess by doing this I must believe in some sort of higher being yet don't particularly like organised religion.
Does anyone else do this or am I being weird?

Faith is a personal thing.

Hawkmoon269 · 24/02/2013 09:34

God isn't "religious" (I say that as a Christian)

V glad to hear it helps and brings you comfort.

TroublesomeEx · 24/02/2013 11:19

Faith and spirituality are completely different to religion.

I am quite spiritual (surprised myself when I realised how much so in fact) but I'm not in the slightest bit religious and genuinely find it difficult to understand how people place so much stock in the written rules of religion.

Me too. It's comforting. And I don't go to church or had mine christened.

When dd was badly injured we both prayed in the beautiful old church down out lane and the sense of peace and comfort was overwhelming.

I class my self as an Agnostic verging on atheist, but I still pray on a regular basis. Not in any formal way but more like 'please god let....'

Prayer has been shown to make people happier and lower blood pressure (amongst non believers).

So consider it just like eating blueberries Grin

YANBU, it's just a nice way of organising your thoughts and thinking about things that mean a lot to you at the end of the day Smile

oopslateagain · 24/02/2013 11:40

I'm spiritual but not religious. Praying is very comforting, and you'd be surprised at how many (non-religious) people do it every day.
