AIBU regarding BRITS?

I am 23..

I am twenty fucking three.

I AM TWENTY-FUCKING-THREE AND BEING EYE-ROLLED BY MY TWENTY-YEAR-OLD SISTER-IN-LAW BECAUSE I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHO HALF OF THESE PEOPLE ARE.

Seriously, who are "The XX"? Are they "The Double-X"? Are they "The Ex-Ex"? Are they "The Two-Ex's"?!?! And Ben Howard?! WHO?! I thought he was the comedian off Mock the Week! And who on earth was that idiot 90's bloke who was nominated for the award Ben Howard one, because honestly - the Gallagher Brothers should sue him for blatant imitation. Couldn't sound more Oasis if he tried.

I'm not being unreasonable, am I?! Unless it's for "Breakthrough Artist" or "Up and Coming", unless people like me have heard of you, you shouldn't even be nominated. And just because I have no fuckign idea who these people are, does not mean I need to be put out to pasture. Right?! RIGHT?!?!

I honestly don't believe you have listened to Radio 1 at all in the last year if you are ignorant as to who Emeli Sande, Ben Howard and Alt-J are.

i've never heard of them either, apart from taylor swift and carly rae jepson, who dd1 tortures me with, most popular music passes me by.

i don't often listen to radio or watch music channels. i prefer my ipod, occasionally dd1 will send me music i like or i spot an artist being talked about a lot or linked to here and it goes on ipod.

I must admit I wouldn't be able to tell you the names of any one direction or taylor swift songs but I have at least heard of them.

I don't HAVE a "taste" in music, that's my downfall.

I will honestly listen to everything. I love showtunes, rap,classical, rock, classic rock, funk, pop, grunge, metal, acoustic, christian rock, country... the list could go on! The only thing I'm against is the really monotonous thud-thud-thud club music, but even then I've got some exceptions!

I turned the TV on, saw someone I thought was Michael Buble performing, James Corden announced that it was Justin Timberlake, and I had to turn the show off in disgust at my own ignorance.

I am 34 and have listened to Radio 2 for far too long, obviously.

The Jessie Ware album is lush, it really is worth a listen. DH put it on just after DS was born and I sobbed the whole way through

YANBU. I'm also 23 and haven't bleeding clue. Heard of about half of the people you've mentioned couldn't successfully match up a song to an artist though, but to be honest, I don't care! I like music, I'll listen to what is on, and that's where my relationship with it ends!

I am reserving brain space for other things, like where I've put my keys, whether or not I switched the hob off and where my house is. These things are already too crowded out! Grin

I loooooove Muse and I'm gutted they didn't get best British Live Act. Why Coldplay,why???Sad Oh and I'm 48. Haven't heard of Ben Howard, but heard of most of the rest. Can't bear One Direction,though.
