To give my two year old vitamins meant for 3 plus?

Just to put in context, he is three in seven weeks time.
He has had abidec since he was 6 months and I get a Tesco multivitamin for ds1, which is for ages 3 plus. This morning I realised there was no abidec here, so I gave ds2 one of ds1s tabs. I never have before but thought being so close to three it can't make much difference.
I then made the mistake of mentioning it to my sister who now has me pegged as The Worst Mother Ever. 'Conpletely irresponsible' and 'dangerous' were some choice words used.
My thought was...he's 7 weeks away from being three. He's fairly big for his age. Surely it's not that big a deal?
AIBU? Or is my sister for reacting the way she did? Honestly, you'd have sworn I'd informed her he was starting on heroin from the reaction Hmm

I give my 2.5 year old 3+ vitamin d tablets because they're the only source of the Scottish recommended children's dose I can find. I did a risk benefit analysis and decided to chance it Grin

I think at his age it's not really a thing. Your mum sounds a bit, um, hysterical!

poachedeggs · 17/02/2013 21:59

Sorry, sister.

Doctor told me to give him the 3+ ones to my 2.5 ds, he said its because they are a choking risk so as long as you watch them take them they are fine.

Sister sounds bonkers.
I on the other hand have never given my children vitamins other than chewable vitamin d in the winter. At the moment they both eat well and aren't fussy. Am I bonkers??

I'm a neglectul mum who has never given her kids vits.

I think your sister is being a drama queen. Unless your child is exceptionally tiny then there would not be an issue.

I think my sister is bonkers too :)
It's amazing how someone a bit crazy can make you question your own sanity and judgement though! Lol
