I know this is a thread about a thread, but it got me thinking its not just audi drivers tha are knobs.

bmw, mercedes, some vw, audi,

all high end german cars driven by people who have done well in life and have a higher opinion of themselves , and for somevreason drive like nut jobs.

this doesn't seem to happen with french, italian, Asian car drivers.

I always have VWs or Audis, not because I am a flash twat but because they are just the best cars I have had.

I would never, ever have a Peugeot or Renault again because I thought they were horrible. But I am not stupid enough to assume all French car owners are morons.

We have a BM and are not generally knobs, don't have high opinions of ourselves and have also had italian and Asian cars and did not change personalities depending on what car was outside the house

Ah, yes round here, they are mostly second hand, tarted-up and driven by wannabe drug-dealers. With no insurance, no tax and no MOT.

But in other parts of the capital they are new(ish) company cars and the driver often has no choice in what they drive.

That's such a silly way to think of people who drive those cars...I mean who thinks like that? I have always driven German made cars because they're the best in my opinion. Doesn't mean i'm snobby, stupid or reckless on the road. To put everyone who drives a 'high end' german made car into a box shows your ignorance.

It's lost cost to run and most importantly feels safe. Someone drove into me a few years back hardy a dent on my car his focus needed a lot of work....

my friend has a very old Audi still going strong she certain,y has enough money to buy a new flasher car but won't as her car is still in good working order. Iwould buy an Audi if I had more money

if I had 20k to spend on a car I could buy a focus or Citroen more top of the range or a basic golf I would go for the golf every time they last forever and are safe what is wrong with wanting something that is sturdy, safe and will give you value for money

I think it is a bit silly and definitely over-thinking it.
DH and I shared a 5 year old peugeot for a couple a few years (our lifestyle/job locations allowed enabled us to to this fairly easily - this was mainly my influence) we now have a brand new Mercedes each (fantastic deals - definitely DH's influence here though). We are both in the same jobs, earning about the same amount of money and I would like to think have exactly the same down-to-earth attitude to life.

Yes OP you are totally right. I drive a big fuck off VW caravelle and I regularly drive like a cunt,especially with my kids in the back.

Germans are good at engineering (and have a knack for logic / efficiency), so build cars that are reasonably reliable. Japanese cars are the most reliable though, IMHO.

But the French ones? Catastrophe.

I have both an Audi and a VW (albeit a very cutesy one). DH also has VWs. Presumably we are twats a few times over for not wanting to drive around in dangerous French bean cans....

I have had a few French cars in my time when they were given to me or I couldn't afford a proper car - pretty scary tbh.

a twat boy driving A Citroen Saxo drove into the back of my lovely golf. I didn't have more than a scratch on the bumper, he found out that his crumple zone went up to the driver seat. French cars are the boy racers' choice around these parts.

Unfortunately the Germans engineering prowess failed somewhat with our previous car - a Mercedes E class estate. Unfortunately it (and the other mercs built at the same time) were made with a batch of non-rust-proof metal, so all mercs of that vintage rotted away, from the outside and the inside. That is why we had to get rid of it - and I loved that car soooo much - me and my PanzerWagen enjoying the open road together. And now I have to drive the BMW instead.
