To rant about Hermes delivery.

In late Jan I ordered £200 worth of plants via Express Newspapers offers.
We were on holiday at the begining of Feb.
We had card from Hermes put through our door that they had delivered the plants into our log pile next to the back door.
This is in full view of anyone walking past/down our drive!
Normally if we are out/away the delivery drivers from DHL/UPS or Yodel will leave parcels in our outside toilet or garage or with our neighbours.
NOT leave them on full view where they can be stolen by passers by or other delivery ppl!!!
I have complained that our parcel has gone/lost/stolen/not delivered and Hermes response was to claim from Express Newspapers!
No apology no responsibility for loss of parcel NOTHING!!!!

YANBU I had a Hermes parcel yuesterday that was left in our food waste bucket. Hmm

StuntGirl · 15/02/2013 12:09

They are terrible. But unfortunately also correct, your contract was with Express Newspapers, Express Newspapers contract was with Hermes. Kick off to Express Newspapers, its the only way. I've stopped using suppliers who use shitty delivery firms like Hermes and Yodel.

Molehillmountain · 15/02/2013 12:18

Really sorry about your deliveries :-( . Just have to say I thought from the
title that it was a stealth boast about having ordered a Hermes scarf!

EssexGurl · 15/02/2013 13:16

I had a parcel delivered by them. I was in the kitchen at the front of the house and saw the van drive up. I went to hang up my tea towel and there was a rustle in the letterbox. I opened the door and the woman was going back to the van, shouting over her shoulder "I did knock but there was no-one in". There was a delivery note in the door saying that the parcel was over the side gate. There was NO way she had time to knock, wait for a reply and then write that out. So, she had obviously driven up, seen the gate, written the card out and then posted it through the door. She was very quick though!

I had stayed in expressly for that package, so at least I got it. But, shoddy service. Luckily it was in a plastic bag as it was snowing but if I hadn't been quick then it could have got damaged.

I couldn't be bothered to complain. Should have really.

Ours is brilliant, my friend missed a parcel the other day so we text to ask if she could bring it to mine and 2 mins later she knocked. Also only leaves in hidden places, our yodel man is great too think we must be lucky!

orangeandlemons · 15/02/2013 13:20

I find Hermes fine. Yodel are the ones who are the real twats. Your contract is with Express Newspapers. They are the ones who have responsibility for this.

EssexGurl · 15/02/2013 13:22

When I ordered the website did ask for somewhere safe to leave the parcel if I wasn't going to be in. But I made a point of being in so didn't give that information. Doesn't excuse the drop and run approach!

Had a big problem with Hermes and a parcel from Amazon last week. Tracking stated that it was 'out for delivery' for 2 weeks so I contacted Amazon who in turn contacted Hermes who claimed to have delivered it and that it had been signed for. I knew it hadn't and Amazon replaced, but Hermes were insistent that it had been signed for but couldn't tell me who had signed for it. I asked why their tracking said 'out for delivery' if they believed they had delivered it and they had no answer. Replacement parcel arrived 2 days later via Royal Mail.

ouryve · 15/02/2013 14:56

Hermes is very dependent on your local delivery person. Ours is great.

Less impressed with the HDNL guy who ripped a bigger hole in my plastic greenhouse than was already there to shove a package into. In full view of the road, anyhow.

ouryve · 15/02/2013 14:57

And I've had parcelforce leave 2 boxes of wine with a neighbour and not leave me a card. Their customer service afterwards was shocking.

2blessed2bstressed · 15/02/2013 15:01

As ouryve says, I do think that all courier companies service varies enormously depending on their local staff....our Hermes is great, and we don't seem to have yodel in our area.

tallulahturtle · 15/02/2013 16:35

Don't start me on UPS , I swear it stands for useless piece of s.....

lucjam · 15/02/2013 19:15

Rant away, Hermes here is delivered by a guy in a car and he STINKS I mean STINKS of stale fags, therefore so does all the stuff he delivers. I had to send my new duvet back to Debenhams the other week, it reeked. Ugh. My husband orders a lot of stuff on ebay etc and I can always tell if the hermes man has been while I've been out because the hallway reeks. Boak.

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 15/02/2013 19:16

Our Hermes lady is lovely, I bought her chocolates the other day.

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 15/02/2013 19:17

Yodel are awful but I haven't had problems with any other couriers. Hermes tend to be the only one the companies I order from use

beginnings · 15/02/2013 19:22

I love our Hermes lady. She's even made of a note of the fact that I'm only home on Mondays and Fridays and holds my deliveries until then....it may be that I shop too much on the internet.

LimburgseVlaai · 15/02/2013 19:26

Our Hermes woman is useless - always late, doesn't know her way around the area. One time I was waiting for a parcel, it didn't turn up, she delivered it the following day and said "I didn't have any other deliveries in this area so I didn't bother yesterday." I have complained but she still seems to get the jobs.
