What's the point

Just opened an alcohol free beer (as given up booze for lent) It is foul and clearly has somethingmmissing. AIBU to think that alcohol free beer is entirely pointless. I also feel the same about decaf coffee. I would just rather do without than have something which 's active ingredient has been removed.?

Have you tried Becks blue? It's the only alcohol free beer that's remotely palatable, IME.

But as regards wondering what's the point, YANBU.

I like Becks Blue

wonkylegs · 14/02/2013 19:57

Due to my meds I often have periods of little or no alcohol and I wouldn't touch alcohol free with a bargepole. Best substitute (& now drink regularly not just when going AF) is Bundaberg Ginger Beer it's not cheap but equivalent to beer & is really nice (no other ginger beer is the same)

Wishihadabs · 14/02/2013 19:59

Right pom bear. I miss read your post and thought you drank for the taste etc. They are heading binwards. (Bought by MIL but why ?)

Apart from anything else, why waste the calories on low alcohol? I used to like drinking the alcohol free when I was pregnant because it always got the judgy pants of others, who couldn't clearly see the label, hoiked right up. Grin

Do people still give stuff up for Lent?

DP has given up the booze and he actually does just like the taste of larger, he wasnt keen on the Becks but has been getting some called Bravia (or summat like that) and says its nice, i just bought him 8 bottles for £2 in Asda.

TWinklyLittleStar · 14/02/2013 20:06

I agree that the non-alcoholic Kopparberg does taste exactly the same as the alcoholic version, and in fact I quite want to go to Ikea to buy some now that I've remembered. Beyond that, the point is to make temporary non-drinkers realise that there are much much much worse things than drinking coke and fruit juice on a night out :)

Sort of agree, but I drank a lot of that Bravia stuff that Vito refers to, while I was pregnant. It's quite nice

The problem is that almost ALL non-alcoholic drinks are sweet. I like the taste of lager

Habanada · 14/02/2013 20:13

Same as mistress, I like the taste of lager and not keen on sweet stuff. Kaliber is too hoppy imo as are a lot of alcohol free beers. Becks Blue is best I have tried.
