To go to Puerto Pollensa AGAIN?

We went to PP twice in 2011. A week at the Porto Azul in May and 10 days at the Playa Mar in Sept.

In 2012 I was determined to find somewhere equally nice with all of our requirements (kids club and mini disco for dd1!) We went to Sa Coma in Majorca staying at one of the Protur hotels. Hotel was fine and had everything we needed but the resort was just soulless- just felt like it was a purpose built tourist resort with no charm at all Hmm

So now I'm planning our 2013 holiday- 2 weeks in June- and I'm a bit confused. DP would be more than happy to go back to PP but I feel like we should try new places.

So far I've looked at Cala D'or in Majorca and Santa Eulalia in Ibiza.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

DDs are aged 4 and 1.

I went to Cala D'or last year and PP the year before that.

PP is far nicer and the option of having the beautiful square or a walk up the beach is lovely.

Cala D'or was fine, nothing negative per se, but just much more typical tourist centre and less beautiful. Cheaper places to eat out in CD, but food isn't as nice. Rows and rows of shops, bars and restaurants, but very much aimed at tourists.

I'd stick with PP if I were you! You could always travel to other resorts whilst you're there and test the waters for future years?

I'd go back to PP in an instant.

We are going somewhere different this year, after going to the same place for the last 4 years

Holiday time is so precious. If you want to go somewhere you love, where you dive into your holiday from the moment you get there, you do it

(although Santa Eulalia is very nice, and if you like PP, you will like SE.....it's also a lot nearer to the airport if you like to get there quickly)

Princesspond · 11/02/2013 10:59

Not helpful but we went to Sa Coma in 2011, as you say perfectly fine but soulless. Was considering Puerto Pollensa people always positive about it.

wigglesrock · 11/02/2013 11:02

We've been to Santa Eulalia 4 times :) over the past 6 years Grin. As AnyFucker said holidays are so precious to us time wise that I can't be bothered pissing about - I have 3 kids, I just want to get out, get in the pool and enjoy the time we have together.

tedmundo · 11/02/2013 11:10

We go to Puerto pollensa a lot as well, but it is just so lovely and we know we'll have a fab time there. the pine walk.... The sea plane ... The square in the evening with the kiddie shows ... Oooooh now I am so jealous.

You could try Cala Rajata as an alternative. It is mainly a German resort and the prices are cheaper as a result (they are far more likely to boycott a place for inflated prices than Brits - I think in PP you do pay a higher amount for same stuff).

enjoy booking your holiday!

Cala Ratjada is north east Majorca. The Cala Agulla beach is lovely, gently shelving and backed by pine trees. We stayed in the S'entrador Playa which is v close and is family friendly - decent family rooms, separate indoor pool for kids, kids club. The small town centre is decidly Spanish (fun trying to buy antihistamine in pharmacy!) and the area around the harbour does lovely fish stews etc. There is one part that is touristy but we just kept on walking.

toughdecisions · 11/02/2013 11:13

Haha x-post with ted

bringbacksideburns · 11/02/2013 11:14

I can recommend the Club Augusta in S'Argamassa, not far from Santa Eulalia. We went last year for a week fullboard - fantastic kids team there. Check out their Trip Advisor reviews and their facebook page.

It's in a quiet area with nice beaches and nowhere felt packed and commercialised.

tedmundo · 11/02/2013 11:16

Glad to see another endorsement for Cala Rajata tough. The beach is just amazing isn't it? how can sea be so blue and warm?!

I have the kitchen lights on here today as it is so gloomy! Oh to be in Spain right now!

toughdecisions · 11/02/2013 11:24

Love that beach. NEED to go back.

mollymole · 11/02/2013 12:26

PP is lovely - been 3 times and would go back again. Been to Cala D'or last year - no where near as nice, IMO it was a bit 'tacky'. Not been to Ibitha for years so can't comment.

goodtoesnaughtytoes · 11/02/2013 16:57

Anyfucker- can I ask where you went to 4 times? It must be really good.

Wiggles- what accommodation do you stay in in Santa Eulalia?

thereinmadnesslies · 11/02/2013 17:04

Can I jump in and ask the PP fans which hotel they would recommend? We went to PP last year and would like to go back. We stayed at Hotel Oro Playa which was v basic but bearable. Location fab tho, a two min walk to the beach. We way preferred that location to the other side of the harbour.

Any suggestions for a slightly more luxiourious aparthotel close to the Pine walk and the beach. Thanks !

1991all · 11/02/2013 17:13

I would recommend Santa eulalia, we have been going for years, but don't really know accommodation, sorry,we have an apt.
There was a thread in shorthaul recently
PP last year and cala dor years ago

Whyriskit · 11/02/2013 17:20

It may be very sad but I started going with my parents when I was a teenager and now we go with our boys. We still go with my folks though!

AnyFucker · 11/02/2013 17:24

OP, I went to Portinatx in Ibiza 4 times. Loved it. I would go again in a heartbeat, but trying Greece again after a long gap this year Smile

suzyrut · 11/02/2013 17:30

PP is perfect with kids that small I went there for about 7 years in a row when mine were younger mainly stayed in Pollensa it's self in apartments and hired a car to drive to the beach. I now laugh at my pre-child self and my ideas about what travel and holidays should be all about. Ex in-laws now have a place in a village outside Pollensa and the kids still go there every August for a few weeks and love it!

I've started to branch out a bit now for my holidays with them which is great but with small dcs I don't think there's anything wrong in giving yourself the best chance of actually considering how much you're going to enjoy your holiday too and if that's by going somewhere you can guarentee you're going to enjoy (and not spend your first few days finding a decent restaurant etc.) then don't give it another thought!

carbondated · 11/02/2013 21:51

Agree that PP would be lovely with small kids. I went for the first time with a friend last summer and we thought it was beautiful. Somewhere both adults and children can enjoy. Also agree that if its somewhere that worked for you and you all enjoyed then you will have years to come where you can try out new places without it being such a problem if everything isn't so ideal. But with such small children you need to know that a place is going to be suitable. The other place we went that I think would be nice with littlies is Nerja. The main thing is that if you can pretty much guarantee you are all going to have an enjoyable break, I wouldn't worry about going back to somewhere tried and tested.

AnyFucker · 11/02/2013 21:53

both Nerja and PP are so bloody far from the airport though

AnyFucker · 11/02/2013 21:54

...which with littlies (and biggies too) is a consideration after the flight

sarahseashell · 11/02/2013 21:59

YABU to go as it'll be full of MNers now Wink Grin

Annunziata · 11/02/2013 22:12

We've gone to the same place for 10 years now, YANBU!

redbobblehat · 11/02/2013 22:13

its a lovely place yanbu

goodtoesnaughtytoes · 12/02/2013 20:01

Some great suggestions. I'm looking at Santa Eulalia. Feel quite excited actually.
