WTF is he doing on TV for toddlers and preschoolers? He is seriously weird, freaky and unnecessary. I vote get rid.

OP posts:
WhatsTheBuzz · 06/02/2013 12:31

he's not the only one though, loads of them are creepy!

NotADragonOfSoup · 06/02/2013 12:34

Nothing untoward in the lyrics.

ColouringInQueen · 06/02/2013 12:36

My kids have both found him the most frightening thing on cbeebies! A seriously strange character - reminds me of the child snatcher!

thesnowmanrocks · 06/02/2013 12:44

Took my then 3yr old ds to see Numberjacks at the theatre. He loved it until the Numbertaker came on. He couldnt get on my lap quick enough he was that scared poor love! Sad

Grilledkippers · 06/02/2013 13:22

I work in children's TV and know that CBeebies had quite a few complaints about this character. He makes me very uncomfortable - Mr. Bloom on the other (I know the thread's been done) is a sight for sore eyes...swoon...

Pascha · 06/02/2013 13:27

Are you talking about the line at 52secs in that clip? I never listened very hard before. I'm sure someone knows the correct line?

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 06/02/2013 13:27

Things I strongly suspect about The Numbertaker:

  1. He was originally a Doctor Who Villain, but the script-writers decided to go with something a bit less scary, like the Angels or something
  1. He was originally dressed all in black and it was only switched to white in a last-minute production meeting when someone with a brain looked at him and said, "For the love of God, you can't let that man appear in a kid's TV programme!"
  1. His song contains the expression "He's a number fucker-upper"
  1. He gave my DS nightmares for years
Toast123 · 06/02/2013 13:40

My daughter used to wake up screaming "it's the shape japer" absolutely terrified.
Outrageous- I love your number 3

WorriedMummy73 · 06/02/2013 13:42

Not one of my 3 dc is remotely bothered by the Number Taker - we actually think he's the best villain in it! As for Mr Bloom, my friend reckons the 'hair' sticking out from under his hat is sewn on and that his actual hair is completely different. Now, Pete on Boogie Beebies (showing my age), he's yum, especially in his pilot's uniform!

NotADragonOfSoup · 06/02/2013 13:46

With his number sucker upper
He's a number mucker upper
He's as mean a number taker as can be.

The M of mucker seems to be very well enunciated!

Stropzilla · 06/02/2013 13:51

I love the number taker. Had to listen to his song a couple of times to check the lyrics! DD on the other hand is terrified of Spooky Spoon.

ChocolateTeacup · 06/02/2013 13:58

Nope definitely an F not an M to me (Its all I can hear anyway)

Pascha · 06/02/2013 13:59

The M is not so clear on youtube on a mobile though and the brain fills in the gap very easily. Spooky Spoon is a very stupid villain. She's a flying spoon. How scary is that?

AmberSocks · 06/02/2013 14:01

the puzzler is also a bit wierd or is it just me?

TheFogsGettingThicker · 06/02/2013 14:05

I find them all creepy but the Number Taker is surely the worst!

ILOVETINTAGEL · 06/02/2018 14:25

My kid is so scared, he couldn't sleep for ages when he watched it. Why is he even on a kids TV show?
Angry

TeenTimesTwo · 06/02/2018 14:28

DD2, who generally doesn't like anything scary, didn't mind the Number Taker.
I had to ban her from ITNG though as she always cried at the end. Sad

BarbarianMum · 06/02/2018 14:30

Ds2 was terrified by him. Ds1 was terrified by spooky spoon.
