Dd is 7 and pretty mature. Over the past few months she has been allowed to go to the shop round the corner alone. It's about thirty seconds away from our front door and rightly or wrongly in other people's opinions she does this maybe once a week.
Today dd is off school unwell and I'm off work to look after her. However I was due to go shopping today after school and work, I have nothing in. No bread, no milk, no fruit, no ham, no cheese, and no Calpol either!
Dd says I should go to the corner shop for bread and milk so she can have lunch and she would wait in bed. I said no because I can't leave her. She says her being at home is actually safer than her going to the shop alone so i should be able to leave her for the 2 minutes it would take. I agree with her logic but still say no - AIBU to say she is probably right but still wrong??
And no I have no family around to pick up shopping or mind her and friends all work so can't help - she can eat dry crackers and an out of date yogurt right??

I would just get her to come with you.

What if something, god forbid, should happen to you. Take her with you. If she's off with a cold a blast of air will do her no harm.

Put her on the landline to your mobile and talk to her all the way there and all the way back.

I have cobbled together lunch with some pita bread, Philadelphia and crackers!

I couldn't have left her though, there is just something not right - although I'm not sure why her going to the shop is different; it just is!

Yanbu - there is something "wrong" about leaving a child...

I suppose her going to the shop is growth and responsibility where as leaving her sick in bed seems leaving her in vulnerable position iyswim?

Go later on and give her a breath of fresh air.
