AIBU to feel annoyed about the Kirsty and Tyrone's storyline, it is beginning to make me cringe.Apparantly kirsty will come up trumps in court, does this encourage anyone who is going through domestic violence to press charges?

Men suffering from domestic abuse have sought more help during the beginning of this storyline than previously. Do you think that Corrie have an obligation to these people to have a positive outcome for Tyrone?

Coronation Street are slowly making a mockery of the legal system, look at what happened to Gail and Fiz I like the storyline but they cannot let Tyrone go to prison over this.

olibeansmummy · 04/02/2013 20:10

I really hope Kirsty will not triumph in court, that would be very irresponsible of the writers. Yes I do think they have an obligation to show a positive outcome for Tyrone, I think I'll stop watching it if not...

SoWhatIfImWorkingClass · 04/02/2013 20:17

I hope Tyrone wins and Kirsty falls flat in her arse basically. They should be showing that men do go through this in real life, and that sending a message that the legal system will not tolerate it. But at the moment Tyrone is being made out to be a thug and a danger, and therefore isn't allowed to see his child- all because some woman lied about him. This happens in real life and it would be nice to see what happens when the truth comes out when women do this.

MikeLitoris · 04/02/2013 20:30

I know someone this happened to IRL. Unfortunately it isnt unheard of.

My bil spent months in jail due to false allegations made against him by his very abusive fiancee.

He hasnt been the same since.

I really hope that the writer are sensible enough to show kirsty getting her comeuppance. Legally.

manticlimactic · 04/02/2013 20:35

You know what? I had high hopes for this storyline when it first started. Now I can't watch it.

Goodtalkingtoo · 04/02/2013 20:40

I also had high hope, I thought it was fab that a man being abused on tv was being portrayed and that it would be a great opportunity to publics ice this very very sensitive issue, but no, this ridiculous story line is not helping victims in any way.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/02/2013 20:41

Its really gone downhill. Such an important topic and a great way to raise awareness and reach out to any victims who are suffering. But they are destroying it.

CauDyGeg · 04/02/2013 20:42

Tyrone should have put a dictaphone in his pocket to catch her out.

Yes, I know it's not real Blush

KellyElly · 04/02/2013 20:49

Cau I thought that too! I can barely watch its so unjust!

Gooeyhead · 04/02/2013 20:53

I always thought soaps had a "duty of care" to do the right thing? I completely agree that showing the end of the storyline where Kirsty triumphs in court is completely irresponsible and will not encourage anyone, male or female, but especially male to come forward in cases of domestic abuse!!! To be honest I was enjoying (if that's the right word) the storyline because I think Kirsty is a fantastic actress but when I found out Tyrone got arrested I knew it would do my head in so turned off!!!

AyeOopMoose · 04/02/2013 20:54

I agree. It's got to the stage where I just can't stand to watch Corrie atm. Awful.

threestepsforward · 04/02/2013 20:57

I just opened this to say the same Caudygeg!

Kirsty always speaks openly about it to Tyrone and Fizz, they could easily do it...

IrnBruChew · 04/02/2013 20:58

I think they have really missed an opportunity to highlight this topic and show that it can have a positive outcome for the victim without false allegations and the custody stuff. I can't watch anymore, Kirsty is a great actress though.

shebangsthedrum · 04/02/2013 21:01

I have just finished watching tonights ep's. I really don't think I can watch this storyline any more. Stephen mulhern on this morning incinuated that Tyrone is going to fare badly in court. I cannot believe that corrie have wasted an opportunity to put a positive spin on a very contentous issue.

Will not carry on watching if that's the case. Ideal opportunity to highlight a real problem and they blow it, typical

Bluemonkeyspots · 04/02/2013 21:54

I thought they were doing well with the story line until tyronne started the affair with fiz.

Now it's a absolute joke.
