washable menstrual pads

ok, i am interested to know if people think this is gross or not. 10 years ago i wouldn't have even considered it, but now with 2 in cloth nappies, it's seems like a no-brainer.
or should i try a mooncup?

stick whatever you feel comfortable with in your pants and up your fanny - I don't think anyone else can answer for you what you find gross.

I can't see anything gross about it, just chuck them in your nappy wash. Mooncups are easier though!

I would go for a moon cup, now that I am okay with having things inside me it is great.

If you don't like putting things inside you then reusable pads are much much much nicer to wear than disposable, no sweaty plasticness with odd perfumes.

Mooncup. I use both, though. Washable pads are a marked improvement on disposable :)

I also use a mooncup with washable pads. It's in no way gross and has saved me lots of money over the years.

Not gross, since they're machine washable. Also better for your fanjo than ordinary pads, they're made of more breatheable fabric instead of plastic.
Basically everyone here loves Mooncup so try it too!

It's not gross but it can be quite unpleasant carrying around soaked pads all day until you get home.

I'm a mooncup fan :)

i don't think it's gross, i just wondered if other people think it's gross. because sometimes i worry that i am dangerously close to being some kind of hippy, which doesn't fit in with my sophisticated self-image.

hahaha as long as you don't start making think from hemp and lentils or call you child Moonbeam Spacehopper you should be fine

I loved my Mooncup but it didn't love me :(

I have to use both, mooncup (or standard disposable for when I am at work as there's nowhere to clean up) and washable pads. IIRC I got them from a highly embarrassing site that called them fairy hammocks after a Jo Brand sketch Blush The only downside is if you need to change away from home, but I've developed the art of folding and popstudding them to keep all nasties pointing inwards.

I must chime in and say i don't love mooncups! They make me 'ache' after a few hours. I've used them for ttc as well as for menstrual blood, so it wasn't a period pain ache. It was a mooncup ache.

Disposable pads intrigue me. How do you keep them in place? I can't keep a bloomin' stick on disposable in place for love nor money! It always goes over one side or sticks itself to my pubes Blush even the ones with wings.

I imagine them to be all nice and soft and towely :)

If you use a sponge then you're a hippy though.

I like the idea of a mooncup but Im not sure if it could cope.I have very heavy periods :(

Vinegar - boggle no more :) You put it in after sex while still laying down and keep it there all night. Or as long as you've got if it's daytime.

The idea is the sperm is held up there rather than leaking out. If your partner has a low sperm count or low motility, or your cervical fluid is not up to scratch, or you've just got the heeby jeebys about it all falling out too soon then it's kind of helpful. Some swear by it. It did work for me in that it kept everything 'up' till i chose to let it out Grin

By 'sperm held up there' the proper phrase would be 'sperm is held close to the cervix'.

fluffyraggies mine have popstuds on the wings, you wrap them around your gusset as you would PL-with-wings but popstud the wings together. As long as you're not wearing thongs, it makes a pretty snug fit Wink

I have also considered whether my mooncup would assist with my ttc but have always opted for the legs-up position instead Blush
