Think I've got proper flu and worried....

In sole charge of my DCs with no help here and really worried. Been incredibly ill since 5am after a week long 'normal' virus and caring for DS1 who has been off sick from school with it all week.

Suddenly, this is a whole different calibre of virus. I can't move. I spent 3 hrs on toilet floor vomiting continually with delirium and high temperature and headache. Coughing up brown phlegm and really bad pain in chest cavity. Can't remember having anything as bad before ever. Normally just drag myself around and still able to look after DCs. Can't stop my heart racing at way above its normal speed even though I'm just sitting in bed. Can't get cool even though I had Ibuprofen at 9.30am.

AIBU to think I have proper influenza today and not just a normal virus? AIBU to be worried that there's only me here looking after DCs - aged 10 and 11 and can't actually look after them at all? DC1 still really weak from his virus all week and not eating and I'd been supporting him to drink fluids but I literally can't move right now and am soaked in sweat and feel really weird.

DC2 has the cough only so far but he has SN - mildly - and is finding it difficult that we're not doing normal routine today and is gettign cross that mum can't talk properly or get up.

AIBU to be so worried that I'm THIS ill and the DCs and I have no one at all to come in and help? Is it just that I'm feverish and so unwell that I'm panicking?

Anyone who can offer reassurance and tell me to stop being a weakling, pull myself together and get on with it - or are my symptoms going to get worse and I should be trying to get some help in for all of us? But there's no one I know of who would be willing to come into a house full of sick people.

I would think you need paracetamol instead of / alongside your ibuprofen?
Settle the DCs with a DVD and tell them what food and drink they can have, then get some sleep. Sleep will help you fight it, they are old enough for you to have a nap.

Hope you feel better soon. Is there anyone who can at least drop off some proper cold and flu medication for you?

There must be someone, even if they're a long way away. You sound really rough.

My mum once drove three hours to look after me when I was really sick. Now that I'm a mum myself I know I'd do it too, and for my sisters and bestest friends.

Call the out of hours doctor out or nhs direct.
Hope you are all feeling better soon.
Do you have any friends or neighbours nearby that could pop some medication over to you? Or some food?

My worry would be that it's not flu but pneumonia.

You need to get a Dr out to you. Insist they come out. You can't possibly get to them and you sound very ill.

please try and get someone to come out.

You may have to be admitted to hospital if you have pneumonia. Is there anyone you can warn that will come and take care of the children? Family etc.

I would consider getting to hospital, as noblegiraffe has said, it does sound like it could be pneumonia.

Sounds to me like you've had a fluey bug and its now turned to a bacterial infection which will need treatment.

Get yourself seen ASAP

Coughing up brown secretions is not a sign of influenza, it is more likely a sign of pneumonia (possibly as a consequence of the flu)

I think you should call out of hours gp and think hard of anyone, you could ask for help . Perhaps a neighbor with older children who won't be scared of germs. The kindness of strangers can be amazing. But you need to take care of you to do your mothering .

OP should be using what energy she has to summon RL advice/help in the form of a doctor and/or someone in RL to come around and assist her

OP also, not to alarm you but I'm sure you have talked the boys through what to do if you pass out? ie call 999 etc.

Just in case. But please do get seen. if you can dial your normal surgery number they might well put you straight through to OOH - ours does automatically when it's shut. Do you need us to find you any numbers etc?

Did you namechange just to post this? Grin it's really fiddly to nc on a phone isn't it? Takes a lot of time...and you need to focus more because you change the settings to desktop and the writing goes all small and unclear.

Get well soon. Call a doctor...or ambulance.

Agree you sound ill. But surely a 10 and 11 year old (even if slightly poorly) don't need much looking after? I was at home with flu this week with DS 1.10 who had flu and 3mo dd and we managed. If you can't cope with older kids ten you must be really very ill?!!

Os this going to repeat the format of a thtead a while back where the OP had flu but was told by many she couldn't possibly have flu and post on a website.

Get well soon OP and see if you can call in support. Peopleihjt be unwilling yo enter a house of sickness but that doesnt stop them bringing food for your dc or drugs for you!
