AIBU to expect man to move over on the train

On route home from work today and selfish overweight man refused to move up to allow me my half of the seat. I could SEE he had room to manoeuvre but instead he stayed put and elbowed me repeatedly and huffed and puffed. Even after pointed out that he was clearly on my side of the seat, he still didn't even try to move.

If he definitely had room to move then he was a selfish, rude man indeed.

Is the fact he was male significant?

were you struck dumb and unable to ask your fellow passenger to move over?

Why didn't you move instead? Or maybe he liked rubbing up close to you? Did he look like a weirdo?

I hate that. I had that recently on my way to work and I did actually politely request that the elbow in question please move away from my face but instead I got told that it was me that had the problem and that I should move my 'saggy supersized arse' elsewhere! I was baffled as it was his elbow in the way and not my (what I thought was a fairly average-sized) posterior, but I guess that's just one of the joys of commuter life...

I did ask him to move over and as I said he STILL IGNORED ME, and of course the fact that he was male is irrelevant. I only mentioned it because it is a fact that he was a horrible MAN not a horrible woman. There was nowhere to move to. A packed rush hour train from London isn't often awash with other seating options!!! Unless he has a penchant for frazzled overworked pregnant women, it's unlikely he couldn't control his lustful ways.

I saw two strangers have a blazing row on the train the other day - the man was shouting 'where the heck do you want me to put my legs then?' brightened up the commute.

Were you sitting window or aisle? If he was overweight then on my commuter line, he'd definitely take up more than his part of the seat.

I wouldn't have been annoyed if he physically wasn't able to move over but he wasn't super morbidly obese, just a regular fat bloke. And I could actually SEE he had room between himself and the window.

haha Jolly it can make the commute more interesting when there's a barney going on - once I am pretty sure 2 men would have actually started punching each other if one of them hadn't got off at the next stop, they had got as far as vaguely prodding each other with their copies of the Metro....what's the point of having a go at someone standing 'too close' to you on a packed commuter train?! Err - it's 7.30am on a weekday and you are on a train into central London! It comes with the territory!

Sorry but if he ignored you - I'd have yelled louder or flopped my handbag on his lap ....

I am now considering starting fights with the endless streams of annoying commuters I meet every day, in the vain hope I will be on the same train as Weener and Jolly so I can brighten someone's godawful journey to work.
