DH says it does hurt but it depends where you are headbutting them. His tip is to pick a softer part of their head than the forehead eg nose. He clearly has experience in the field

Because you're not aiming on hitting them on the forehead, you're using your forehead to hit a softer bit of their head (nose)

haha, I never thought of getting the nose - I always thought it was odd for men to headbutt someone when it must hurt the giver as much as the receiver.

You need to hit the bridge of their nose with the top of your forehead. That is the thickest part of the skull for you and the thinnest for them. Don't ask me how I know this. If you do it right you will barely feel it and they will be floored with blood dripping from their nose. I can say it is a very effective tactic and highly unexpected from a woman to a man who is for example trying to nick her bag.

My dad said if you think someone is going to headbutt you put your chin on your chest.
