How much does your car cost you per year (not including initial cost or petrol)?

Can I ask how much your car costs your household per year (per car), not including the cost of the car itself (bought outright or rented) or petrol but costs like:

Mot, road tax, servicing, insurance, breakdown cover?

I assume this is to help you decide if you can afford a car? It varies hugely depending on the make & model you get. X

My car is 11 years old and usually needs some tweak or other at MOT or service. Plus I have on street parking in London which makes the insurance sky high. I also have to cough up for resident's parking.

Varies according to car . Tax is either £130 or £190, insurance c. £400 (parked off road), mot £50, servicing/repairs anything from £100-1000+

It's under warranty and fairly new, just three years old, so no parts/ labour but depreciation is probably £1000/ yr

Vauxhall Zafira tax £170ish, mot £50 but it always costs £500 with bits, service £200but it always needs stuff as she's getting old so again £500, tyres £100, insurance £200.

Breakdown insurance is just under £30 for both.

Tyres £60 is per small car tyre and with very low mileage i have only changed one in four years, yes the others are all road worthy. So my £60 is £240 a set over four years IYSWIM.

I am jealous of all of all your cheap insurances!

I'm boringly middle aged, low mileage, not a valuable/ desirable car, stored off road. That makes insurance cheaper!

Insurance = £180
Tax = £20
Service = £200
MOT = N/A

Sometimes I hate the thought of paying so much on the lease, but I do high mileage so it works out best for me. Also, I feel better about it when I hear friends having to pay out £500 on repairs every few months when something else has gone wrong - mine is under warranty.

Ivy, tax band F. It's actually £135 a year, but about £74 for 6 months.

Depends which vehicle...

Big old diesel car: £600 to park on the drive ready to go or be rescued, 43p/mile to move from A to B.

Small newer petrol car: £210 to park on drive ready to go and get rescued away from home, 13p/mile in petrol and probably (not enough data yet) 25p/mile to move from A to B.

Park on drive costs = insurance + MOT + VED + emergency rescue.
Probably extra 20-40p/mile in depreciation on both vehicles.

ps: we are both middle aged, lucky for us wrt insurance. Teenager not old enough to drive yet, thank goodness.
