To be exasperated with DH

Picture the scene, wet patch on bathroom floor by toilet (it's not what you think) DH thinks there's a leak, he thinks it might be an underfloor pipe for the radiator. Hmm
I try explaining that on the 1st floor of a building water does not leak up. He doesn't get it and insists it must be a pipe under the boards.

He says we meaning me need to check the garage.
Now I know for a fact that there is no leak in the garage as I checked yesterday paranoia because our bath leaked last year

So I went into the bathroom and pulled up the carpet so see where else was wet. Behind the toilet. So whilst I'm on the floor I flush to toilet and discover what is leaking.

So I tell DH exactly what the problem is.

He is still going on about a pipe under the floorboards that must be leaking.

aibu to be thoroughly exasperated with him because he doesn't seem able to grasp the concept that Water doesn't leak up! especially in a house where gravity is firmly established

if it helps I'm pregnant and I'm sure he's not usually this aaaahhh

Say no more to him about it and either fix it yourself or get someone else to do it. Is he not blessed with much common sense? Grin

KatyTheCleaningLady · 24/01/2013 23:38

YANBU.

I'm sure he has some redeeming qualities, however. Grin

Ring a plumber, it will save your sanity.

BananaPie · 24/01/2013 23:42

I've had this exact conversation with DH! Must be a bloke thing..

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 24/01/2013 23:51

banana if its a bloke thing, I must make sure seabrights plumber is female.

manic I think that might be the way ahead it usually is
it should be easily fixable.

Perhaps I should lift a couple of the floorboards whilst I'm doing it just to show DH that the pipes aren't there.

When out tomorrow, stop a random stranger on the street and ask them to say exactly what you've been saying - if he's like my husband, it'll all make perfect sense then.

Then beat him over the head - blame the hormones

beachyhead · 24/01/2013 23:53

He's playing dumb so he doesn't have to do anything.... they do that, you know

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/01/2013 23:54

Capillary action works upwards. So would osmosis. He's not as thick as you think...

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 24/01/2013 23:59

Playing dumb... beat over head... Hide body under floorboards... Blame hormones... Fix leak myself.

Sounds like a plan. Wink

Not sure mrsterrypratchett Hmm

I'd hope (if he knows what they are) he would realise that neither would apply to our bathroom floor.

doesn't have to be alive for osmosis and your floor boards were formally a tree. I thought I'd finally found a use for GSCE biology Grin

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 25/01/2013 00:17

I'm sure that it was what DH had in mind when his non existant in that area under floorboard pipes were causing a wet carpet 3 inches above them.

are you sure my house is definately not alive?

Is he imagining a leak from a cartoon where a pipe has a jet of water coming out of it which could support the weight of a mischievous creature? Because that could be squirting up into your carpet even if there wasn't a cheeky mouse/talking bee/petulant baby hedgehog relaxing on the top of it...

When my fridge stopped working after a flood, exH reckoned it was because the pilot light had gone out...

Your house is alive.
