To think this mother created her own problem

Getting DS changed after swimming lesson tonight and another mum came and and started telling her daughter off for taking too long getting changed - because she was in a hurry, because her other daughter was ill. Sympathetic so far - until she announced that she had chickenpox. And that she was standing in the corridor. With her DH in tow.

Then they all got into the car and drove off just ahead of us. Saw them stop at Tesco and all jump out of the car - including poxy child who had been running round like a loon and playing with other kids during sister's swimming lesson

AIBU to think 'just leave her at home with DH and it solves your problem'?

That's really irresponsible to take a pox-ridden child to a swimming pool.

Flambemoi · 24/01/2013 20:35

What problem did she create? Confused Do you mean she should have quarantined sick DC (who doesn't sound that poorly in herself)?

IAmLouisWalsh · 24/01/2013 20:45

She was having a right go at her elder daughter about being in a hurry to get home BECAUSE poorly younger daughter shouldn't be out. But she bloody brought her out. And there was a spare adult who could have kept her at home.

How do you know that they couldn't. Leave poxy dd because the dh hadn't been picked up yet?

It's perfectly possible to have collected dh on the way to the pool.....plus a kid who has been indoors allday probably needed go blow off some steam.

Lastly they're not contagious all the time they have the pox, you know!

DexysMidnightMummers · 24/01/2013 20:54

Have you never extended the truth to get your DC to hurry up?

That might be what was happening

firawla · 24/01/2013 20:56

maybe she cant drive that could be why the dh came too, with the other child

apostropheuse · 24/01/2013 21:00

She was maybe past the infectious stage.

Bogeyface · 24/01/2013 21:04

Yeah maybe she had a good reason, or maybe she was just a selfish bitch.

I will never understand MN. If the OP had said "WIBU to take DS with chicken pox with me to DD's swimming lesson as DH is still at work" she would have been FLAMED to within an inch of her life, lectured about people with immunity issues, pregnant women etc, and told that in the interest of not causing a plague of armageddon proportions her DD should miss the lesson.

But come on here and moan about someone being so selfish and irresponsible, and you get told that YABU!!

IAmLouisWalsh · 24/01/2013 21:08

It's OK, I couldn't particularly give a toss.

I just felt a bit sorry for the older daughter being bollocked as if it was her fault that a poorly child was being kept out late. Poorly according to mother.

She could drive, btw - she was driving.

Poxy child could have been kept in car with 1 adult. If she was using the excuse that poxy child should have been at home to speed up the other daughter then going shoping in Tescos afterwards is a great example .

badtemperedaldbitch · 24/01/2013 21:18

Unless she was going to get medicine!

hazeyjane · 24/01/2013 21:20

If she was past the infectious stage, then she wouldn't be poorly, so her being out wouldn't be an issue. So I guess she was still infectious, which is why the mum wanted the other dd to get a move on

YANBU op, the dh should have stayed at home or in the car with the ill dd. very selfish to take her out.

DomesticCEO · 24/01/2013 21:20

Grin bogey - you are soooo right! And normally by the same posters too!

Some people on here could start an argument in an empty room Grin!
