To think it's not exactly pc to call someone stupid

Just pondering; with people now ( rightfully) aware that we shouldn't mock or discriminate against people because of physical or mental disabilities/ perceived shorcomings, or skin colour, or most things which we can't change about ourselves; why is it still ok to call someone a bit thick or say " you don't sound very intelligent" This was someone's response to a thread of mine, and I thought if i wasn't very intelligent, then so what, but should it really be a term of abuse?

but was it a term of abuse or just a statement of fact?

Some people are stupid though

PC is stupid

It's not PC or respectful to call someone stupid. IMO there's a big difference between saying "that was a stupid thing to do/say" and saying "you are stupid." The latter is just rude and won't achieve anything except for antagonising the person or making them feel small.
